In the last two months I have seen an uptick of profiles commenting under posts about links to groups, used equipment, stash sales and the like.
Today I had to block 2 people that went back on posts a year old that were putting links to websites and groups repetitively and no doubt an attempt to get our followers to click links.
Additionally I've had about 8 comments since July offering used equipment, yarn stashs, and even links to other indie dyers businesses.
With the increasing frequency of these issues I feel compelled to take a moment to address why this is so disruptive to a small business.
First, false profiles and advertisements are everywhere, I do try to evaluate people who join then comment on multiple posts and usually catch them early on and remove any comments that show up that could potentially be scams immediately. Please do not link to other groups. If you are a local, established fiber group that is hosting an event, or are trying to get the word out about events or educational opportunities please just send me a message, I'd be happy to post something about any of those things, however I am hoping to create an online community that can trust what is being presented on this page, in order to do that I like to ensure that any opportunity, event or otherwise is legitimate prior to that information being passed to my social media following and customers.
Second, this page should not be used for advertising for new or used equipment, yarn or fiber. We are a business who sells new and used equipment. We do accept larger items on consignment and provide a free consultation of Looms, Wheels, Carders and other fiber art equipment, however there is a process that needs to be followed. The process was created as a check system to ensure that the equipment being offered is real, free of major defect, and in ready to use condition. Yes, we do charge a minimal fee for consignment, however we do a full evaluation of the equipment with a list of any concerns, missing items, and recommendations for any parts that may need replacing. Additionally, I offer replacing minor parts, reconditioning of the wood, minor repairs in order to improve the value and condition for both the seller and the buyer. A side note, if consignment isn't right for you, or perhaps your equipment is too large to bring to the studio or shop, I do keep an active list of individuals who are legitimately selling items beyond our space limitations. Please reach out if you have an item that is unique, large or in less demand, and if I have someone that is looking for an item like that I would be happy to make an introduction.
The main reason why I am bringing attention to this is, I have always sought to create personal connection, customer relations that not only trust that they are getting what is advertised, but they are confident in the support that comes along with purchasing from Four Hearts Farm Mainely Fiber.
In the virtual world there are so many ways that people can mislead and manipulate individuals. Let me be clear, not all of these events were due to malice, some were good intentioned and I've spoken directly to those individuals.
I have poured my heart and soul into this business, and value each and every one of you enough that I'm a little protective of this community that is growing here at Four Hearts Farm Mainely Fiber,
As someone who has bought a used vehicle with hidden problems, or agreed to meet someone on craigslist to purchase something to have them never show up, or show up with something not even close to what was represented its not only frustrating but it can have a monumental financial impact. Back in the early days of Four Hearts Farm Mainely Fiber a used wheel was commented under one of my posts and I didn't catch it. To make a long story short, the wheel was in horrible shape, the person who bought it was inexperienced and assumed that if it was on my page it was vetted and approved by someone. That person had a wheel that didn't, and likely never would work, and paid a considerable amount of money for it. I would hate for that situation to happen to any one of you.
Typically I see 1-2 posts like that incidentally in the course of a year, so to have this happen 8 times within 2.5 months is very concerning. I will continue to monitor and do my best. I do encourage anyone who sees a post of that sort to notify me.
