This year, we're excited to partner with Fair Trade Certified to support the Cooperativa Agraria Allima Cacao in Peru!

With their Fair Trade Microgrants funds, Allima Cacao is turning an overlooked byproduct into opportunity. A new women-run facility will transform cacao mucilage, the sweet pulp surrounding cacao beans, into cacao honey and fertilizer, creating new income streams for farmers, reducing waste, and empowering women within the community.

Over the last year, our work with Fair Trade Certified continued with our second Fair Trade Microgrants project with the Aprovraem Café y Cacao.

This coffee and cacao farming cooperative in the Province of Satipo, Peru has suffered the negative effects of climate change in the region. Loss of biodiversity, declining soil fertility, and the scarcity of forest resources, combined with heavy rains and prolonged drought, have exacerbated the vulnerability of farmers in this area. They are utilizing their Fair Trade Microgrant funds to build a nursery that will produce 40,000 seedlings of native species and offer forest management training.

The nursery aims to repair the adverse effects of deforestation and degradation due to agricultural expansion and inadequate resource management, while creating a long-term model that other organizations in the area can replicate.

Last year, our first Fair Trade Microgrants project planted 7,000 trees!
🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳

It's been one year since we wraped up our very first Fair Trade Microgrants project with Fair Trade Certified and the Cooperativa Agraria Granos de Oro del Valle de Pangoa in San Martin de Pangoa, Peru. The Cooperativa utilized their Fair Trade Microgrant funds to plant 7,000 trees in an agroforestry management program that will have a long-term, sustainable social and environmental impact.

This Fair Trade Month, we're excited to celebrate our innovative partnership with Fair Trade Certified.

Together, we're pioneering a new Fair Trade Microgrants Program and donating 1% of sales from our Signature Bars directly to cocoa, sugar, and vanilla farming communities. These Fair Trade Microgrants go above and beyond the fair trade Community Development Funds, allowing farming communities access to funds to build schools, bring clean water to their villages, or establish healthcare facilities (just to name a few).

Our Fair Trade Microgrants allow farming communities and workers to collectively decide on which development project addresses their community’s greatest needs and then give them access to additional financial resources to complete these much-needed projects sooner.
