Apparently, I need to defend my stance on artistic freedom YET again.
The 315 Artisan Market exists to give artists and makers a place to express themselves—not a place where every item must reflect my personal beliefs, political views, or sense of humor.
Artistic freedom means allowing people to create things you may not personally agree with. Seeing something that challenges, annoys, or offends you does not automatically make it hateful.
The one thing I will never allow on my shelves is ACTUAL hate speech—anything that dehumanizes, threatens, or promotes hatred toward a group of people. That is my hard line.
Beyond that, our artisans are entitled to their own voices, perspectives, humor, and creativity. You do not have to agree with every product. You do not have to purchase it. But disagreement alone is not a reason to silence an artist.
Artistic freedom only means something when it also protects the art we personally would not choose.
