Comet Organ Company recently completed the installation of a Rodgers Imagine 241 at Theresa Presbyterian Church in Theresa, New York. The new instrument replaces the congregation’s aging pipe organ, which had become increasingly unreliable and offered limited tonal resources.
Music plays an important role in the life of the congregation, and organist Daniel Osborne, who has served the church for 13 years, initially contacted Comet Organ Company to explore options for addressing the existing instrument. As both a pipe organ service company and builder and an authorized Rodgers dealer, Comet Organ Company was able to present the congregation with options for rebuilding and expanding the existing pipe organ as well as replacing it with a Rodgers Imagine 241.
After considering both approaches, the congregation selected the Rodgers for its extensive tonal resources, flexibility, and convincing pipe-organ sound. Recognizing the increasing difficulty of finding organists, the congregation also looked ahead to possible future needs through features such as the Rodgers Hymn Player, Record & Playback capabilities, and Rodgers Play wireless app control. The realities of Northern New York winters also factored into the decision: unlike the pipe organ, the Rodgers does not require the church building to be brought to temperature well in advance of services and events.
The rural Northern New York location made the installation itself a little unusual. With the nearest hotels more than 30 minutes away, the Comet Organ Company installation team of Jason Comet, Leo Corvino, and Andrew McKeon rented a cottage on nearby Moon Lake, just minutes from the church. After each day’s work, the team returned to the lake for home-cooked and grilled meals and a chance to enjoy the beautiful North Country scenery.
