Enrique García 1968 - 1922
In the late nineteenth century Enrique García, born in Madrid, settled in Barcelona, a Modernista city experiencing extraordinary urban development and artistic fervour. García brought with him a wealth of expertise inherited from Antonio de Torres via Jose and Manuel Ramirez. What distinguished his guitars, which were concert instruments, was his asymmetrical eight-strut bracing. He was a prize-winner at the 1893 international exposition in Chicago ‘for sweetness of tone quality’ and ‘for beauty of finish'. Domingo Prat, Francisco Tárrega, Miguel Llobet and Emilio Pujol all played on his guitars and helped establish his reputation in both Spain and Latin America.

This instrument which is braced like the later Marcelo Barbero guitars is fitted with our “Bite-away,” which allows easier access to the upper frets and with the additional soundport in the Bite-away, more volume from the instrument. The action is low and easy to play. The sound is crisp and bright, very direct and immediate, yet the basses are really deep like older Spanish instruments.
