Fruit of the Bloom Garden Center Seasonal garden center with annuals, perennials, herbs, hanging baskets, vegetable plants and soil. We are open from May 1st to June 30 each year.

Welcome to Fruit of the Bloom Garden Center! Fruit of the Bloom is a seasonal garden center locationed in Wauwatosa at 121st and North Avenue in the Fischer School Building and Breitlow Field Parking Lot. We have been in business since 1988 and were one of the first businesses in the area and the first in Wauwatosa to propose selling flowers seasonally from a temporary greenhouse. We are known for excellent quality and service at a reasonable price. Due to our small size, we have the ability to go to our growers each day and hand-pick the best possible plants in order to keep our shelves well stocked and our customers happy. We offer a great selection of exceptional quality plants, from Ageratum to Zinnias and everything in-between. We sell unique, custom grown baskets, planters, potted material, vegetable plants, herb plants and perennials. Most of our growers do not sell to large box stores, but only to a handful of small retailers like us. We carry virtually every color Impatien and Petunia you can find. We also carry high quality bagged soil for your every planting need. Be sure to stop in and check out our large selection of beautiful Proven Winner ® potted annuals. These have been selected over the years for their hardiness in Wisconsin and for their color, versatility and ease of growing. Fruit of the Bloom has been so successful because our customers appreciate the quality of both our outstanding plants and our personal service. Our knowledgeable staff and huge plant selection keep our loyal customers coming back season after season.

Just 40 minutes of walking, 3 times a week, can grow your brain!

A study published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (Erickson et al., 2011) found that older adults who walked regularly for a year increased the size of their hippocampus — a brain region vital for memory — and improved memory function.
Regular movement = stronger mind. 🧠🚶‍♀️

The DNR thanks wildlife rehabilitators across the state for their dedication and contribution to Wisconsin’s wildlife.

Our state’s wildlife species have incredible skills to adapt and survive, but some wild animals face difficult circumstances, due to human-wildlife conflicts, natural disasters, illnesses, injuries or more.

While it may be tempting to try to rehabilitate wildlife yourself, it should be left to the professionals. Every year, licensed wildlife rehabilitators provide temporary care to sick, injured and orphaned wildlife with the goal of releasing them back into the wild. In Wisconsin, rehabilitators are required to be properly licensed and have extensive knowledge of the appropriate husbandry practices of the species in their care. In addition, they are on the forefront of wildlife disease detection and protect human and wildlife health with strict biosecurity protocols.

Spring and summer are typically the busiest time of year in the rehabilitation world as young wildlife are prominent across the landscape. Some rehabilitation facilities may field over 50 calls in a single day and admit over 5,000 animals each year. The work doesn’t stop with a phone call though, as each animal admitted must be assessed and cared for based on its specific needs. With morning and evening medications to administer, feedings every 30 minutes, the constant need for cage cleaning and more, rehabilitators rarely have a spare minute throughout the day.

This work is diligently carried out by licensed wildlife rehabilitators without any state or federal funding for the services they provide. It is important to remember that wildlife rehabilitation facilities may hit capacity and limit admissions of certain species during the busy season.

There are many ways to contribute to the wildlife rehabilitation community, including volunteering as a transport driver, donating supplies or helping build new enclosures. If you would like to lend a hand, please reach out to your local wildlife rehabilitator to discuss their current needs.

A chance encounter between a skunk and raccoon in Washington County was captured by a Snapshot Wisconsin trail camera. Images featuring multiple species are sometimes captured by the wildlife monitoring project, but it’s usually white-tailed deer and wild turkeys comingling, so it’s a treat to see an interaction like this one where both animals look equally startled and curious.
