A Little History of Atlantic Ceramic Molds
Remember when ceramics were all the rage? ๐จ Well they are all the rage again!!
During the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, painting ceramics was a favorite hobby, and Atlantic Mold Company was one of the well-known names in the ceramic hobby industry!
Atlantic produced hundreds of plaster mold designs used to create everything from Christmas trees, Santas, and holiday decorations to adorable animals, figurines, and beautiful home dรฉcor.
Local ceramic shops would pour liquid clay, called slip, into these molds. Once the pieces dried and were fired in a kiln, customers could paint and glaze their own creations. Many became treasured family keepsakes!
Today, vintage ceramics made from Atlantic molds are gaining attention from collectors, especially their nostalgic holiday pieces. Look closely at the bottom of an older ceramic treasure, and you might just find the Atlantic mold name or number!
โค๏ธ The best part? Many of these pieces were lovingly hand-painted by someone years ago, making each one a little piece of handmade history.
At Midwestern Vintage & Friends, we love finding treasures that bring back memories and tell a story!
