Fall Maintenance for Peonies. 🍁 Newly planted peonies require a layer of mulch for winter protection. Following the first frost you can cut back peonies for winter, although earlier pruning will not cause harm. To prevent disease, it is recommended to burn all foliage. Itoh peonies can also be cut back at this time; however, it is crucial to REMEMBER DO NOT cut back tree peonies. Spring is the optimal time for fertilization, unless a light application is used. In colder climates, providing additional protection for newer peonies is beneficial, while established peonies can typically withstand winter conditions. This is my hyacinth bean vine. I grew it years ago and a friend gave me seeds so I planted it after my sweet peas were done blooming. I forgot how much I loved it and the pollinators and the hummingbirds love it. It’s pretty aggressive. This is just 2 plants..
