SRAC summer lecture series announced!
The Susquehanna River Archaeological Center Announces a Three-Part Summer Lecture Series Featuring SRAC Board Members. The series will comprise three lectures showcasing the recent work of SRAC's board members in association with the archaeological center team.
Event Location: The Susquehanna River Archaeological Center, 345 Broad Street, Waverly, New York.
First Presentation: 'Native American Life Along the Susquehanna River, 1000 Years Ago in Athens, PA' will be presented by Dr. DeeAnne Wymer, SRAC's lead archaeologist, on Saturday, June 13, at 1 p.m. at SRAC.
Details: The presentation will cover three years of excavations along the Susquehanna River in Athens, PA, revealing a rare glimpse into ancient village life. The Abhe Brennan/Polzella site provides a critical snapshot of the first permanent native settlements in the area. A special exhibit unveiling will feature unique artifacts from the site, including items on short-term loan from the Tioga Point Museum.
Second Presentation: 'Spanish Hill/Carantouan' will be presented by Deb Twigg, SRAC cofounder and director, on July 11 at 1 p.m. Twigg will discuss new findings recently presented to the New York State Archaeology Association.
Third Presentation: 'Ancient Petroglyphs at Seneca Lake' will be presented by David Moyer on August 15 at 1 p.m., highlighting his report on rare Native American petroglyphs near Seneca Lake.
Admission will be four dollars at the door for nonmembers and free to all SRAC members with current memberships.
