The Blue Ridge Parkway from Balsam to Soco Gap is beautiful this time of year and a lot cooler than downtown Waynesville with temperatures averaging up to 20 degrees cooler. The entire round trip can easily be made in a few hours including time for pull offs. To make a loop of it you can get off the parkway in Maggie and follow Soco Rd to Russ Ave to the Great Smoky Mountain Expressway which then intersects the parkway in Balsam. Enjoy!
