I hear it all the time, “I don’t have time to read.” I was that way not so long ago. I thought that if I didn’t have more than a couple minutes at a time that it wasn’t worth reading, distractions, interruptions, responsibilities, all the excuses in the book. (See what I did there?😏)
But here’s the thing, literacy is at an all time low. Literacy isn’t just being able to physically read, but to retain information, drawing inferences from text and it helps with comprehension skills as well.
Encouraging children to read helps them gain skills that are much harder to learn any other way. Showing kids that reading is enjoyable at any age is one of the easiest ways to get the idea across.
Let kids see you reading, talk to kids about books, share reading experiences with them!
So no matter how you like to consume books, do it.
