I’m writing this as the owner of Pacifier Kids, and as someone who cares deeply about the people who make our stores what they are.

In the past month, two members of our team have experienced racist language from customers in our stores. In one instance, a customer used a racial slur about a doll. Hearing that this happened to our team breaks my heart. Honestly, it makes me want to close up shop rather than ask good people to face that kind of ugliness at work.

Retail takes a lot of emotional resilience. Our team shows up with patience, warmth, and care, even when an interaction is difficult. They deserve to feel that care from us, too.

To our team: I have your back. Period. If a customer’s words or behavior make you feel targeted, disrespected, or unsafe, you can pause the interaction, call for support, and ask them to leave.

Racism and slurs are not part of our values or the community we want Pacifier to be. We want every family to feel welcome here, and our team deserves to feel welcome and respected at work.

Hate is not welcome here.
