Can't wait to meet you all at the "Bee" Intrigued Opening Reception at Green Door Art Gallery! Time to meet our final artist! Let us introduce Encastic Wax Leah Baird. Come view creations with this wonderful material produce from our amazing Bees! The Wax is the connection here, and Leah's works are a fantastic array of what you can create with wax! Her work is truly phenomenal.

Let's learn more about Leah and her works...

Leah Merriman a St. Louis native and is passionate about her hometown. Six years ago, she began exploring techniques that would allow her to โ€œpaint deeperโ€ into the canvas, and her love for the encaustic medium took shape. She now works primarily in encaustics to create ethereal, layered abstract landscapes on cradled wood. She also creates detailed illustrations of urban scenery and architecture in ink and acrylics as well as charcoal portraiture that she blends with encaustics to create her own, unique style.

This series of paintings is the first of a planned body of work exploring local scenes and landmarks familiar to many who grow up and live in St. Louis. Starting in South St. Louis and moving North and West, Leah plans to continue this series of work to encompass the entire St. Louis region.
Working in this tactile medium, even the irritating and mundane of each day can be made to feel winsome. The persistent mugginess of a summer evening in St. Louis can portray magic if looked at in the correct light. Through these works, even humidity is put on display as more than a sticky feeling, but as an unappreciated filter that grabs and throws light and color through the atmosphere.

These are places we know, but more importantly, they are places that know us. Each scene the viewer looks into pushes back, posing internal questions of their own personal, local histories. Each vantage point depends on who is present on any particular day. Every day is another layer, another person โ€“ perhaps another version of the same person โ€“ experiencing a place which is familiar, yet every day newly beautiful. The layers fuse together to become a collective and constant living memory.

This Friday we will "Bee Ready to Party"! Green Door Art Gallery will be hosting the "Bee" Intrigued Opening Reception. We have just 2 more artists to feature! This evening's artist is Mixed Media Jewelry and Assemblage artist Allison Norfleet Bruenger. Her love of nature is all a "Buzz" in these bee-themed babies. She will also bring in a special bee-themed necklace for this Friday's opening to keep the hive humming!

Let's learn more about Allison and her assemblage creations in her own words...

I create a mixed-media "Adornment & Assemblage" series in which I develop a snapshot in time to present an environment that conveys a thought or meaning to the viewer. With the use of acrylic mediums, art surfaces, and color pencils, I create imagery as the formation of my works. Then, I use a variety of materials, ephemera, and found objects to build a work that is to be displayed as a wall or vertical surface piece. Within some of her works, there will be a corresponding necklace or pendant that can be removed and worn. These wearable creations can then return to their home within the mixed media creation. It is so exciting to create works that are "stand-alone" creations as well.

Our next featured artist for the "Bee" Intrigued Exhibit is 2D Mixed Media Artist Alison Bozarth. Alison's beautiful watercolor on Yupo paper brings color and light to anyone's day. Her sense of color and delicate pencil work stir your imagination and bring your thoughts to a whole new level.

Let's keep this Hive Buzzing!
Our next featured artist for the "Bee" Intrigued Exhibit, now showing at Green Door Art Gallery is Fiber and Jewelry artist Carla Duncan. Carla brings the world of Felting and Mixed Media the beauty of Bees. Her mixture of fibers, natural materials, and found ephemera provides us another way to "Bee" inspired by the vision of a bee's life.

Let's learn more about Carla in her own words ...

It all started with a picture seen on Pinterest. Five tubes covered with hand-stitched fabric in a corner of an art gallery in an international fiber show. Later, when I was getting ready for my first show with another felter, I created three felted prototype tubes destined for a tall wall between our family room and kitchen.

My husband and I decided to improve on the tube concept by trimming the back off, allowing it to hug the wall.

After several years of putting fabric on tall tubes, I started putting painting on canvas on tubes. A friend asked me to explain one of my abstract tube paintings, and then asked me to paint a giraffe on a tube for her, and my animal line was born. I love how lifeโ€™s twists and turns take us places we could have never dreamed of going. Thank you, life, for that!

Each tube painting is treated for conservation purposes. Tubes are wired to hang down, taking up a small footprint in a hallway with a high visibility impact, and they may be hung horizontally as well and look great over a sofa.

Felt, nunofelt, acrylic paintings, giclรฉe fine art prints, cold wax & oil, and sometimes a combination of several mediums all adorn my tubes.

Now let's see who we are "All a Buzz" about this Time!

Let us introduce you to our next featured artist for the "Bee" Intrigued Exhibit, now showing at Green Door Art Gallery. Patrice Aitch, our mind-blowing glassblower, creates beautiful glass works spanning the realm from whimsical Bee ornaments to exquisite vases and bowls. They are truly wonderful works that will be a great addition to any home.

Let's learn more about Patrice in her own words ...

I jumped into glassblowing with the mindset of learning the mechanics necessary to create functional and attractive pieces - the pretty vase, the cute pumpkin, the cool tumbler.
Three years into my journey, I have found that the infinite possibilities for learning, unlearning, relearning, and refining are exciting and well worth the chase. While the discipline to become a good craftsman exists, I now have the desire for my inner artist to emerge. I want to create glass that is not just aesthetically appealing, but glass that evokes feelings of joy.
I hope my exploration into the world of glass and honeybees brings warmth and a smile to your day. Watch out for that stinger!

Let us keep the Buzz Buzzing!

Let us introduce you to our next featured artist for the "Bee" Intrigued Exhibit, now showing at Green Door Art Gallery. Liz Davidson has us all stitched up with her dimensional fiber creations, where each layer of fabric brings to life her subjects. These you have to see in person.

Let's learn more about Liz and her fantastic fibers ...

Liz Davidson - Fiber Artist
I am a self-taught fiber artist based in Carbondale IL. My wall hangings are made using a raw edge applique method. I cut, fuse, and sew pieces of fabric together in layers. I sew with a variety of machine stitches, free motion sewing, and hand sewing. I love the combination of fabric and thread that brings texture and life to my art.
I use various blends of found fabric, some of which I hand dye to get bright beautiful colors. I enjoy making art from fabric that may have been destined for a landfill.

Now remember, Green Door Art Gallery is open Wednesday through Sunday, 10am to 5pm. Save the Date for the "Bee" Intrigued Opening Reception on Friday, August 7th, and our Artists' Talk on Thursday, August 13th. You will just have to "Bee" there! ๐Ÿ
