Yesterday's Muse Books is an independent bookseller, specializing in antiquarian and collectible titles. In operation for over 15 years, our first 'brick and mortar' shop opened in December 2008 in our hometown Webster, NY. Owner Jonathan Smalter is a member of the Antiquarian Booksellers' Association of America (ABAA), and former vice president of the Independent Online Booksellers Association (I

OBA), both of which are trade organizations created to promote ethical online selling practices, and to encourage continuing education among fellow booksellers. He is also a 2011 graduate of the Colorado Antiquarian Book Seminar (CABS). With over 15 years of experience in the book trade, he has become adept at evaluating used and collectible books. If you have books to sell, please email [email protected] with some photos or call us at 585-265-9295. We offer book repairs, restoration, and conservation services, as well as appraisals for insurance purposes and book rental for events and productions. Please inquire for quotes.

“I couldn't be fonder of you if you were my own son. But, well, if you lose a son, it’s possible to get another. There's only one Maltese Falcon.” – Dashiell Hammett

Our wonderful copy of the Maltese Falcon is a reprint of the 1934 Modern Library edition featuring grey Rockwell Kent endpapers and E. McKnight Kauffer jacket art. Following Sam Spade, a slightly shopworn private eye with his own solitary code of ethics, a perfumed grafter named Joel Cairo, a fat man name Gutman, and Brigid O'Shaughnessy, a beautiful and treacherous woman whose loyalties shift at the drop of a dime, Hammett guides you through the twists and turns of one of the most influential mystery novels of the 20th century. It was later used as the inspiration for the 1941 film featuring Humphrey Bogart and Mary Astor.

Another one of our staff favorites, By the Shores of Silver Lake, is ready for her close-up! The 4th volume in Laura Ingalls Wilder’s The Little House series follows the continued adventures of the Wilder family as they move from their home on the banks of Plum Creek to the unsettled wilderness of the Dakota Territory.
