Betty and Colleen L. recommend: PECK & PECK by Bonnie Garmus

Betty says:
Fasten your seatbelt for Bonnie Garmus’s rollercoaster ride of a novel. Set largely in the rarefied world of a poetry journal, the book ricochets among the importance of verse (and an ear), the fine points of typeface, and the ever ending cadence of siblings. Her charming characters, including the lovable narrator, will sustain you until you touch down on solid ground. A joy of a story.

Colleen L. says:
Take the plunge into the pithy complexities of family, grief, love, and finding one's way in this sophomore novel from Garmus, author of Lessons in Chemistry. You won't be disappointed! Filled with complex characters, and many twists and turns, it's also humorous, heartfelt, and very smartly written. One of the best reads of the year!

Meet Jett our e-newsletter our dog of the week. Jett, as in Joan, is an eldest daughter, an overthinker, and a fan of ice cream (relate to all of those). We didn't catch her age, but we know that she's 3/4 Poodle and 1/4 Bernese Mountain Dog. A very evolved pup, she's an excellent hugger and knows "go get mama" and "put your head on mama." Sounds like the sort of emotional support we all could use right now.

Charlotte Lillie Balogh is an author, a screenwriter, and a comic book writer born and raised outside Boston. She stopped by the store to autograph copies of her books while visiting some local schools today. CAPSIZED is a mystery and coming-of-age drama set against the backdrop of an elite all-girls rowing club as they navigate first loves, first heartbreaks, and the bonds that form when winning isn’t the only thing on the line. It will soon be adapted for Hulu, by the producer of Pretty Little Liars. When she’s not writing, CLB mentors young women through RowLA and WriteGirl, helping to create the next generation of real-life superheroes. She is the author of Kill the Lax Bro and Capsized. Check out her amazing top- designed to match her book.

We are grateful to author Gary R. Gray Jr. for stopping by the store after his school visits to autograph copies of his new picture book SPENDIN’ TIME.

Gary R. Gray, Jr. is a poet and educator who writes for young children and adults, and he is the host of the podcast It’s Personal. His Boston Globe-Horn Book Honor winning and critically acclaimed picture book debut, I"M FROM was inspired by growing up in Preston, Nova Scotia, Canada’s oldest Black community.
