The Adventures of Greg and Brooke... Solar eclipse edition...
Our trip started on Friday April 5th. We stayed local (local to where I'm living now, lol). We hit Ride Kanuga. It was ladies night, so Brooke wanted to go there.
On Saturday, we had to move our camper to a different spot and then we went to Rock Creek to watch the Monster Energy downhill qualifying. And WOW!!! Some of these guys are fast!! It was great seeing some old friends and seeing all the Frame Works bikes out there. Then when we got home we had to pack for our trip to go see the solar eclipse.
On Sunday we got up early to go ride in Cherokee at Fire Mountain. We met some Pennsylvania friends (Maria and her hubby) there and one of our new friends (Geralyn) from Asheville. This trail system was so much fun. We did like 13 miles and 3,000 ft climbing. After the ride we stopped at Native Brews tap and grill for some food. The wings there were so good! Then we said our goodbyes to Maria and Jamie and started our 6hr drive to The Land Between The Lakes campground in Kentucky.
Monday morning we got up early for our 2 hour drive to Cedar lake where we were going to watch the solar eclipse. It was just a little south of Carbondale, Illinois. There were a few MTB trails there, that is why we picked here. The trails were blue on trail forks but they should definitely be black. They were chunky and very technical. We rode out about 5 miles and we found a good spot to watch the solar eclipse. Watching the eclipse was so amazing!! I am so glad Brooke wanted to do this. When it was over we rode back to the car and made our way back to where we were camping. It took about an hour and a half longer because of all the traffic.
It was rainy Tuesday morning so we packed up. We were hoping to get a ride in but with the rain we just decided to head for home (Brevard NC). On the way out of the campground there was a bald eagle sitting in a tree right beside the road.
This definitely was another epic MTB trip. Brooke and I have been together for just over 2 years and we have done and seen so many amazing things. I really do feel so lucky to have this amazing woman as my girlfriend. Without her I wouldn't be able to do even half these things.
So our next adventure will be a bike packing trip next weekend. I have never been bike packing so this will definitely be an experience.
