The Adventures of Greg and Brooke!!!

Just a quick trip home to PA for the long holiday weekend to spend some time with Brooke.
It was a pretty low-key holiday weekend. Picnic with friends. Took my dad out for breakfast. We rode rode on Friday at Blue Marsh. Took a dip in the water to cool off. Then on Saturday we rode smedley Park. Even though it was stupid hot, we tried to make the best of the weekend. And now I am back in West Virginia.
Our next adventure will be the mountain bike fest in Bear lake West Virginia.

Last bridge on Lower Butter...
My job here is done!!! I'm in Marlinton West Virginia now. I am really going to miss working in Pisgah. I love the trails there and I got to meet some really great people I became friends with..
I hope everyone loves the new Butter Gap trail as much as I do!! I can't believe I was there for 6 months. Time flew by way too fast.

Definitely one of the hardest bridges we've built. Pretty remote and we had to drag these big stringers up a steep, muddy creek. These stringers are HEAVY!! This bridge is on the lower butter trail.

I really have to start posting more of the cool stuff I get to build!!

The Adventure of Greg and Brooke.... My first ever bike packing trip. On April 19th weekend.

Friday we stopped by The hub bike shop to grab a couple things we still needed and while we are there we grabbed some food.
We then started our ride up Avery Creek road which is a 7 mile and 1500 ft climb. We did not get as far as we wanted on Friday, but we found a nice little camping area next to a creek. We set up Brooke's new bike packing tent which was the first time it was ever out of the bag. But we were able to figure it out and get it up pretty quick.
Saturday was our long ride day of 42 miles and over 5,000 ft of climbing. It was definitely a hard day, especially on a fully loaded gravel bike.

It started raining early Sunday morning. Although we were lucky it stopped raining while we packed up camp. But then started raining pretty hard as soon as we got on the bikes. IT was a very cold wet ride back to the car. We cut a little bit off of the ride due to the weather but we still did over 20 miles.
Finally got back to the car. We were soaking wet and cold but we still had smiles. This definitely was an epic trip that I will never forget.
I really do feel very lucky to have such an incredible partner. One that is willing to do almost anything with me no matter how stupid it may be.

Can't wait to do it again it was so much fun.. very challenging but so much fun.

Who is in for the next one???

The Adventures of Greg and Brooke!!!!

We are heading out for a bike packing adventure. This will be my first time ever doing this. I'm so stoked!! I can't wait to get out there. We are heading out shortly and should be back mid day on Sunday. I will definitely be posting pictures and letting you all know how it went when we get back.

I feel so lucky to have such an amazing partner/girlfriend willing to do all this crazy stuff with me.

This trip is more of a trial run to make sure our set-ups are good to go for bigger trips.

The Adventures of Greg and Brooke... Solar eclipse edition...

Our trip started on Friday April 5th. We stayed local (local to where I'm living now, lol). We hit Ride Kanuga. It was ladies night, so Brooke wanted to go there.
On Saturday, we had to move our camper to a different spot and then we went to Rock Creek to watch the Monster Energy downhill qualifying. And WOW!!! Some of these guys are fast!! It was great seeing some old friends and seeing all the Frame Works bikes out there. Then when we got home we had to pack for our trip to go see the solar eclipse.

On Sunday we got up early to go ride in Cherokee at Fire Mountain. We met some Pennsylvania friends (Maria and her hubby) there and one of our new friends (Geralyn) from Asheville. This trail system was so much fun. We did like 13 miles and 3,000 ft climbing. After the ride we stopped at Native Brews tap and grill for some food. The wings there were so good! Then we said our goodbyes to Maria and Jamie and started our 6hr drive to The Land Between The Lakes campground in Kentucky.

Monday morning we got up early for our 2 hour drive to Cedar lake where we were going to watch the solar eclipse. It was just a little south of Carbondale, Illinois. There were a few MTB trails there, that is why we picked here. The trails were blue on trail forks but they should definitely be black. They were chunky and very technical. We rode out about 5 miles and we found a good spot to watch the solar eclipse. Watching the eclipse was so amazing!! I am so glad Brooke wanted to do this. When it was over we rode back to the car and made our way back to where we were camping. It took about an hour and a half longer because of all the traffic.

It was rainy Tuesday morning so we packed up. We were hoping to get a ride in but with the rain we just decided to head for home (Brevard NC). On the way out of the campground there was a bald eagle sitting in a tree right beside the road.

This definitely was another epic MTB trip. Brooke and I have been together for just over 2 years and we have done and seen so many amazing things. I really do feel so lucky to have this amazing woman as my girlfriend. Without her I wouldn't be able to do even half these things.

So our next adventure will be a bike packing trip next weekend. I have never been bike packing so this will definitely be an experience.

The Adventures of Greg and Brooke!!! Florida Edition with special guests Mikaela & Brent.

Mikaela set up the trip for the 4 of us to stay within riding distance of Santos riding area near Ocala Florida. So Brooke and I drove there from Brevard and they flew down on Wednesday the 21st. We were able to get a quick ride in Wednesday night to get a feel for the trail system. Thursday we rode there again and we hit maybe 2/3 of the trails, riding almost 40 miles. It was a blast. They had a few techy trails to keep us on our toes. A couple nice drops and some really cool features to ride..

On Friday we went north to hit the San Felasco Hammock Preserve. We were trying to get a quick ride in before the rain. And of course we were not successful. The last 5 miles were in the rain. We were all in good humor about it. Smiles and soaked riding gear all around.. We ended up with 20 miles there. It was very XC riding. And the only crash was Brooke falling over when Mikaela was trying to take her picture. Lol..

Saturday we decided to go down to Alafia trails down near Tampa. It was a 2 hour drive but it was well worth it. OMG, this place was so much fun. It was like a rollercoaster ride!! We ended up doing about 16 miles here. Then Brooke and I went over to Clearwater to check out the town and Mikaela and Brent rode over to the next trail system a few miles down the road to get in some more miles.

Then on Sunday we drove back to Brevard.

This was such a fun trip!!! Thank you so much Mikaela for setting it up and inviting us along!! Definitely made some lasting memories... Plus Brooke and I can check off Florida for places we rode together.

The Adventures of Greg and Brooke.... Brevard, North Carolina edition...

So Brooke got down here last Friday night (Jan 26th). Saturday was a rain day so we drove around to check things out. Got out for a ride on Sunday. Climbed up the mountain and took Black mountain trail (upper upper) to Avery. Super fun route. Got out Tuesday night to listen to some live music and grab some food. Wednesday night we got out for a night ride at Dupont. We hit a lot of the slab trails. Thursday. I got done a little early with work so we ran over to Dupont with a hard tails for a good rip. Friday we went over to Neko's for dinner. Saturday we went to Kanuga for some laps with Joey. Then today we hit the Kitsuma trail. So it has been a great week with almost 10,000 ft of climbing. We are getting to meet a lot of cool people and learning some of the trails around here. But we have so many more trails to hit. It has been a busy week. We are really enjoying our time here in Brevard...

Yesterday was raining day. So no work. But we did get to go to Cane Creek for a tour. Very cool place. And then last night we went to the Riveter. I wasn't planning to ride because of my shoulder. I just wanted to hang out with the guys, but they talked to me into riding anyways.

Pisgah!!!!! So stoked for the project. We broke ground later on Wednesday. We got a full day in on Thursday. Probably like 500 ft in now. The crew of 4 we have here or seasoned builders and we work really well together, so I know this trail is going to be sick!!
