A client told me the worst twenty minutes of her day were between dinner and homework. Not the homework. The hunt for the pencil, the charger.

A shower-caddy-style tote fixed it. Crayons, scissors, glue sticks, pencils, markers, paper. Everything a younger student needs, in one thing they can carry to the table. Plus a permanent charging station so the charger stops walking off.

The scramble did not get shorter. It stopped.

Some belongings are difficult to part with because they represent who we hoped to become, not who we are today.

Maybe it's the expensive craft supplies you never used, the golf clubs from a hobby you never started, or the stack of cookbooks for meals you no longer have time to prepare.

This is called aspirational clutter. These items aren't just things. They're reminders of plans, dreams, and good intentions. Recognizing them for what they are can make it easier to decide whether they still belong in your life.

Nobody walks in through the front door. They come in through here, arms full, twenty minutes behind schedule.

The shape we build toward is a cubby per person, hooks inside for backpacks and coats, and a bench with a basket underneath for shoes. Even if you never buy the exact piece, it is the pattern that makes the room stop fighting back.

Ten minutes and one hook is genuinely the whole thing.

Put the hook at their height, by the door they actually use. A basket underneath for shoes, directly below the hook. Then pack the bag the night before, every night, while the kitchen is being cleaned up.

The morning does not get shorter. It gets quieter.
