Scales and Tales Let us help you tell a REEL fish Story! Scales and Tales Guide Service provides a unique experience for the light tackle and fly angler across New England.

Scales and Tales is Connecticut's newest light tackle, small boat charter. Aboard our Parker 1801 we target striped bass, black sea bass, scup, fluke, bluefish, and false albacore and bonito. Scales and Tales operates off a trailer and we follow the fish of season, working the waters of Long Island Sound, Buzzards Bay, Vineyard Sound, and Cape Cod Bay. Spring keeps us close to home fishing the river mouths and estuarial waters of Long Island Sound. Late spring and summer you can find us in the cooler waters of Vineyard Sound and Cape Cod Bay. In the fall you can find us anywhere from Cape Cod to Watch Hill, Rhode Island in pursuit of our favorite fish to target, ALBIES and BONITO! We head back home in December to target striped bass in the Housatonic river. Our charter is geared for 1-3 people, as our focus is on giving our sports the best possible experience on the water.

Busy week here for Scales and Tales!

Started the week trying our luck in the Connecticut River with good friend Matt Browne. The plan was to make bait quick and send down live bunker on the channel edges hoping to pick up some of the large bass that are beginning to drop down river. Well, as they say "the best laid plans..." Needless to say bait was scattered at best early. After an hour or two of frustrating casts at small pods of bunker we saw some intermittent topwater explosions and began casting plugs. BINGO! Large stripers on the surface. We found fish between 25-30 pounds that could not resist a Rebel Jumping Minnow. Our luck continued to turn as we found nice concentration of bait and filled the live well. Pretty instant hookups began with no fish under 40" landed with a couple lost. Success!

Transition to Friday at the Cape Cod Canal- The first breaking tides of the season. This has been circled on my calendar for a year as my first canal trip of 2016. Friday did not disappoint with fish in the 20 pound class hitting Al Gags Whip It Fish and Tsunami XD Talking Poppers. Saturday showed 5 times the anglers and 0 fish for our efforts so we said adios Cape Cod and made the trip home to get ready for what was the best part of the weekend.

I had the opportunity return to Deer Lake Boy Scout Reservation in Killingworth, CT to help my good friend Joe Bouffard and Cub Scout Pack 261 catch some fish! What a blast! Lots of smiles, some tangled lines, one hook in a finger (successfully removed lakeside) and of course FISH. These kids were a blast to fish with and made me look forward to helping my boy fish when he is old enough! The perfect ending to a great week!

Wish they were bigger, but the Tsunami Glass minnows topped with Gulp! Were a deadly combo!
