A rich tropical dial 34mm man’s 14K YG Oyster Perpetual ref # 6567 circa 1959 with a truly amazing set of original chronometer papers, Rolex warranty, and rare early original inner and outer box.
This watch comes from a bygone era when earning the designation “Chronometer” was quite special. The caliber 1030 butterfly movement was tested over 15 days in different positions (dial up, dial down, and crown down), temperatures (heat and cold), and states of wind (fully and partially powered), with the results recorded by hand each day on a large parchment-style certificate. Only movements demonstrating the highest standards of precision and reliability earned the coveted chronometer designation.
Remarkably, this watch comes with not one, but three original Rolex certificates. In addition to the large chronometer certificate is a smaller parchment-style Rolex Warranty dated August 1, 1959, recording the original date of sale. Most notably, it bears the signature of Rolex founder Hans Wilsdorf. Wilsdorf passed away in 1960, making this among the last examples of a Rolex certificate bearing his signature. A third parchment card confirms the chronometer designation of this specific watch.
The watch comes with its original oversized Rolex presentation box—the cream-colored outer box as well as the wonderful green flocked clamshell inner box. Both are remarkably well preserved.
We love the beauty and character of this watch, but we especially appreciate the completeness of the entire presentation. For the collector who values the historical documents and accessories that help tell the story as much as the watch itself, we think this is a very special find.
