“We will continue to hand craft furniture in the tradition of craftsmen from our grandparent’s generation,” Nina Petronzio says of her furniture line. With a goal to create superior, lasting, family heirlooms, Plush Home’s manufacturing process focuses on the details that you may not see at first glance in a catalogue or showroom, but will eventually notice through everyday use. The basis on which Plush Home sets its tone is found in the fine quality of materials it uses as its manufacturing ingredients. “We don’t skimp on what you don’t see,” says Nina of her line which uses FSC approved woods, exceptional manufacturing practices, hand ties, high quality foam cores, and generous amounts of goose down in their upholstery fills. When I design for clients, I always give them this advice: don’t design in a vacuum.

It’s easy to fall in love with a sofa, a chair, a rug or a piece of art and buy it with no context for the rest of the room. But that one random purchase can suddenly dictate everything that comes after it.

Think of it like getting dressed for a special event. You don’t buy one statement piece and then hope you can build an outfit around it. You think about the whole look — clothes, shoes, accessories — and how everything works together.

Interior design should work the same way.

Have a plan for the whole room before you start buying the pieces.

Of course, you can break the rules and make spontaneous purchases. I do it too. But it’s a lot easier to break the rules when you know what the rules are.

One thing I probably don’t share enough…

I bring a lot of accessories to my projects. 😂

Lamps, artwork, vases, books, greenery… sometimes way more than we’ll actually use.

Why?

Because seeing everything in your own space changes everything. We move things around, compare options, and figure out what actually feels right before making final decisions.

It’s honestly one of my favorite parts of the design process. Those little finishing touches are what take a room from looking nice… to feeling finished.

It’s a little more work, but it’s always worth it. 👌

When shopping for a design project, always bring your samples with you—paint swatches, wood finishes, metals, fabrics, and stone. Seeing everything together in person makes it much easier to coordinate the details and pull the whole design together.

A luxury hotel feel isn’t always about a full renovation—it’s often the small details that make the biggest difference.

Start by displaying generous, neatly folded white towels instead of just one or two. Layer hand towels, bath towels, and washcloths to create that abundant, spa-like feeling.

Next, decant your everyday hand soap, lotion, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash into matching dispensers. Removing mismatched plastic bottles instantly creates a cleaner, more curated look.

Complete the space with a small tray to organize essentials, a simple vase with fresh greenery or flowers, and keep countertops free of clutter. The result is a bathroom that feels intentional, relaxing, and worthy of a five-star hotel.

Luxury is less about spending more—it’s about thoughtful presentation.

Before investing in custom upholstery, take the time to sit on it. Photos can show beautiful fabric and clean lines—but they can’t show what’s inside.

We don’t cut corners on what you don’t see. Every piece is built with premium cushion cores, high-quality fill, and expert craftsmanship to deliver exceptional comfort, support, and durability.

Because what you don’t see is what you’ll feel every single day.

Don’t be afraid to go bold in a small space.

Large art, dramatic wallpaper, rich paint colors, and statement lighting can actually make a room feel bigger by creating depth, drawing the eye, and giving the space a clear focal point.

The biggest mistake in a small room isn’t going too bold—it’s playing it too safe.

Not sure about the scale of a sconce and really want to see what it’ll look like in the space? Print it out to scale and tape it to the wall.

Simple little design hack I use with clients all the time. Sometimes you just need to see it in the actual space before you commit.

For every project, I start with a furniture layout drawn to scale. That lets me test furniture sizes, rug sizes, and traffic flow on the computer before anything is purchased.

But if you’re not working with a designer—or don’t have software to create a scaled furniture plan—here’s one of my favorite tricks:

Grab a roll of blue painter’s tape.

Tape out the exact footprint of your area rug and furniture directly on the floor. You’ll immediately see if the room feels balanced, whether you have enough walking space, and if everything actually fits before spending thousands on furniture.

Even when I do have a scaled layout, I still like to tape it out on-site. Seeing it at full size in the actual room often reveals things you just can’t appreciate on a screen.

And if you want to take it a step further, make simple cardboard or kraft paper templates of larger furniture pieces. You can move them around, try different layouts, and visualize the space before placing a single order.

A little planning upfront can save a lot of money—and a lot of returns.

Design Mistake: Choosing a chandelier that’s too small.

Sometimes you can’t find the perfect size. But if you have a choice, go slightly larger rather than smaller.

A fixture that’s a little oversized makes a statement. One that’s too small just gets lost in the room.

When in doubt, size up. 💡
