Small update over here.

Mason had reached out a few weeks ago to see if I knew anyone who’d be interested in working at , the coffee shop he had bought in June. With my kiddos in school full time and our hopes to open our own cafe community center one day, I told him I’d love to try it out and learn all the things.

So I’ve been learning what it means to be a specialty coffee shop - not Starbucks - like I had managed in college. I have been practicing grinding, tampering and proper pressure to pour the perfect espresso shot. I’ve been baking lots of cookies and pouring chai lattes and yummy teas.

It’s been a fun change and I have been telling Ricardo it feels like an internship of sorts since it’s like taking one step closer to make our dream a reality.

If you’re looking for a better than average cup of coffee in Sacramento, you should come by. I just might be there 😆

Also, I have to mention, it is not only great coffee but it supports local youth through job training with the 🙌

I have believed false doctrine.

I grew up Mormon, LDS, however you would like to call it. Believing in the Book of Mormon. An extra biblical book containing revelations from Joseph Smith given to him by an angel; the very thing Paul tells us to not believe:

I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel—not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed.

For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ. Galatians 1:6-10

As I have come to faith in Jesus, I have had to unlearn those things I had come to believe as truth and yet still have unintentionally have been taught and believed that which was not truth.

It has been a process of pulling back the curtain to what is true; though the core of of my faith has not changed:

God so loved the world that he sent his one and only son, Jesus, to die on the cross for the sins of the world (John 3:16).

My spiritual realities have been underdeveloped and misunderstood, yet the aim with my faith has always been love and I am grateful love covers multitude of sins (1 Peter 4:8).

When the aim of our faith is love, even when we believe and teach what we do not fully understand, God will continue to show us the truth when we seek him, just as Priscilla and Aquila explained the gospel more adequately to Apollo who had already been preaching (Acts 18:26) but we must be wise to false teachers as Paul warns Timothy of in this section of scripture.

At times we may be weary of sharing our faith in fear of misconstruing it but when our aim is love in humility, God will show up and work like he did with Apollo.

Praying our aim is always love ❤️

Awake.

When you are born into a life of captivity, you do not know anything different, especially when it is hidden under the cover of the night, bound to those whose role is authoritative and one of a protector.

How do you mourn that which you do not remember?

How do you proceed what’s been taken from you when never knew it was lost?

How do you grieve in spite of their attempts to take away memories, emotions and tears?

How do you comprehend your life through rose colored glasses given to you by those who have taken vows to love and honor and care for you?

The loss is hard to fathom and the army is against the truth coming to light but the truth is - light always defeats the darkness, no matter small the flame starts off. That’s the thing about fires, the smallest spark can set a whole forest ablaze (James 3:5).

Yes even in the murky depths, hope arises because we serve a God who overcame the grave, who already defeated death and the evil one. The victory over darkness has already been established, even while I walk through the valley of the shadow of death. There is no fear, simply trust in my Savior, the author and perfecter of my faith who freely gives his love and grace to those who have taken what was no theirs to take from me and so many others.

Forgiveness is a gift from God and because he freely gives, so do I offer it as well. Because I believe in freedom, not only for myself but the many who will come after me and my children.

And freedom starts with forgiveness.

My story isn’t over yet, my story’s just begun. Praising my Savior all the day long.

Some days it feels like everything is stacked up against us. Some days are heavy and full of unknowns but there is a truth that we can get up and not live in a place of defeat. We can live in victory. We can choose to see the works of the hands of the Lord.

It is an invitation to show the world the Father's love, serving despite rejection, being misunderstood and poorly treated.

Servant leadership is often thrown around in churches, yet rarely demonstrated. Talking is easier than living it out, this I know first hand. Being a person of character is easier on the tongue than on the action. Easier to say than to do. It takes self control and a life lived with Jesus, fixing on Him, the author and perfecter of our faith and continuing to turn to Him when we fall. That is a the beauty of servant leadership. Falling does not count us out, rather it keeps us tethered to Jesus, allowing us to turn to Him in our short comings with grace.

When Jesus washed the disciples feet, He did not leave out Judas, though he knew his heart and what would become the ultimate betrayal. In his love and mercy, he brought himself low and continued to serve. 👉More on the blog.

For months I have been getting google verifications I have not requested, codes for access to other accounts and been notified that countless accounts have had password breeches. I have looked into them and changed passwords but in the end it has been a reminder of the age that we live in. Perhaps all of my accounts have been hacked, like my old Amazon account that had reviews left for purchases made by a hacker and took multiple calls to their call center to prove I did not order them and that I was who I said I was. (Side note, if you’ve received emails, messages or otherwise that were questionable from me, this could be the reason).

A reminder that privacy is never truly private and how easy it can be to take access of another's, prying into their inner circle; for they cannot sleep unless they do evil; they are deprived of slumber until they make someone fall (Proverbs 4:16).

Character has been a term that has been frequently used in our home, as I have been sharing with our kiddos about the importance of trust and the importance of doing the right thing, even when no one is looking. With the amount of fraud and security breeches our world has seen, it is not hard to find a lack of moral character or an imposter working to taint the character of another. In a digital world with less and less human interaction, it is easy to lose the character, personality and humanness of others. Easy to negate their dreams and hopes and what makes them tick and trade them in for what they are neglecting to do or areas where they are falling short. Easier to give judgement rather than grace. Easier to criticize than to love.

Freedom, in the Greek respectfully.

Jesus died to set us free from sin and to usher into freedom found in his resurrection.

We were created for freedom from sin and death. Let us keep this in our forefront as we celebrate Easter. May we live in this place of authenticity and vulnerability and humility because of Jesus conquered sin and death when he rose from the grave.

We no longer have to live there. 🎉

Happy Easter, friends.

Today on we sit down with Tiffany and Travis Stroud as they share their adventure of walking through the unknowns of sepsis.

At the beginning of 2020, Tiffany went had an apicectomy that went seemingly smooth until a few days later when she starting feeling sick, which they later found out was sepsis.

They share how they have worked through the experience, the gift of community and how important it is to process emotions and anxiety through prayer and counseling.
