To our amazing customers, vendors, and friends,
This is one of the hardest announcements we've ever had to make.
Since opening our doors at 1208 Grand Avenue, The Picker Knows has been so much more than a retail store. It has been a place where friendships were formed, stories were shared, treasures found new homes, and countless memories were made. Over the years, this community has become part of our family, and we cannot begin to express how grateful we are for the incredible support you've shown us. Your loyalty has allowed us to build something truly special, and for that, we will always be thankful.
Because of that, what we're about to share comes with a great deal of sadness.
At the end of July, The Picker Knows will be closing our retail store at 1208 Grand Avenue in West Des Moines.
We know this announcement will come as a surprise to many, especially since our business has never been stronger. This decision was not driven by a lack of customers or support. In fact, your enthusiasm and encouragement have never been greater. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts and many conversations, we were unable to reach a lease agreement with the property's owner that would allow us to remain in the building we have proudly called home for the past 10 years.
Walking away from this location is incredibly difficult. We truly believed this building would be part of our story for many more years. Saying goodbye to the place where so many memories were created is heartbreaking, but sometimes circumstances lead us down a different path than the one we had envisioned.
The good news is that this is not the end of The Picker Knows.
Many of you know our family is from the wonderful community of Winterset, Iowa. For some time, we had been planning to open a second location on the historic Winterset Square. While that plan has changed, our vision has not. Instead of opening a second store, we will now be relocating The Picker Knows to Winterset, where we'll continue bringing you the unique antiques, collectibles, vintage finds, and one-of-a-kind treasures you've come to expect along with some of the same vendors you love!
Our online presence will continue to grow as well. Trey and Eric will continue hosting live auctions on the Whatnot platform, where we've built an incredible community of collectors from across the country. If you've never joined one of our shows, you're in for a fun, entertaining experience with plenty of amazing finds.
As we prepare for this transition, we'll be sharing updates on our new location, our grand opening plans, and everything else we have in store. We can't wait to welcome you to this next chapter.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for believing in us, shopping with us, becoming our friends, and supporting our family-owned business. While it's difficult to say goodbye to the place where our journey grew into something so special, we're incredibly grateful that we get to continue that journey with all of you.
This isn't goodbye—it's simply a new beginning.
