Ever wonder if that pristine-looking CD in your collection is secretly decaying from the inside out? While the CD revival is in full swing, there's an invisible threat lurking for collectors known as disc rot. Even if a disc looks flawless on the surface, it could be losing its data as it approaches that 30-year manufacturer expiration mark.

Before dropping cash on those rare, vintage pressings, it’s critical to hold them up to a strong light source. Look for pinholes, spotty transparency, or any bronzing on the bottom—all warning signs that a disc might be on its last legs. For collectors with massive libraries, it’s a sobering reality check: some of those prized albums might eventually become nothing more than a jewel case and a fading memory.
