Most people know the garden statue version of St. Francis. The real one is far more bracing, and his witness is more urgently needed now than at any point in a generation.

“He gave up everything, wealth, status, a soldier’s glory. And the Church was never the same.”

→ Born to a wealthy merchant father in Assisi
→ Captured in battle, spent a year as a prisoner in Perugia
→ Knelt before a crumbling crucifix at San Damiano and heard Christ say: “Francis, go and rebuild my house”

But the story doesn’t stop there.

→ Stood before Sultan Malik al Kamil and offered to walk through fire
→ Received the Stigmata, Christ’s wounds in his hands, feet, and side
→ Founded the Friars Minor: the Little Brothers, no property, no privilege

None of that fits on a garden statue.
