Handles can be tricky! I was taught in college to pull a wedge off of the mug. Some people will pull one long handle and then slice individual handles from it. The wedge attachment allows for an easy way to make your mugs feel good to the touch and bring comfort to the purchaser.

There is a natural bend that can be acheived when pulling a handle. Potters need to bring physics into the equation for everything we create. We must make sure that the handle works ergonomically for our wrists, accounting for the weight of the mug, volume of liquid and size of the hand. It shouldn't be bottom heavy and the handle must be smooth and soft with beveled sides for comfort.

Allowing the handle to sit upside-down for 2 minutes allows for an effortless attachment at the base. My thumbs press the bottom of the handle to the vessel.

The 6 mugs will have monster faces added today for Halloween. You can pre-order for the holiday season and pick your glaze color. $55 per monster.

This is a platter that I made 11 years ago. I had a broken thumb and couldn't throw on the wheel. In two months, I made 16 platters. Six of them broke in the glaze kiln, some sold and I still have two at home. I had forgotten about this platter until a memory popped up. I had heard the quote from a scientist on Science Friday. It reads "The Universe is filled of magic things, waiting for our senses to get sharper." I learned a lot in those two months about what I could accomplish with one hand. I don't often handbuild but I would love to make these platters again with two hands.

September 12th, we are hosting Pinch Pot class for ages 6-12 from 1-2:30pm.

The class is a one pound pinch pot. A form so old that it propelled ancient civilizations foward. Allowing time to cook and eat from a pot allowed more time to heal bones of others.

This easy form allows 6 year olds to explore clay, creating unique designs and thinking outside the box. Older kids will thrive with the easy designs brought forth from the medium.

Each child will mold the clay into a ball and pinch out the sides. Then, they will carve into the clay, adding designs and handles if desired. With the third part of the class, they use underglazes to add color.

The vessels will go into the kiln and have a clear glaze added, creating a food safe barrier. The vessels are made of stoneware clay allowing to be, dishwasher, refrigerator and microwave safe. The class is $30 per child. Please private message, text/ call at 317-385-0994 or email at [email protected] to sign up your child.

Blue Moon Blooms Westfield has such wonderful flowers! I love creating my bouquet and enjoy the easy experience provided at her outside cart stand on State Rd 32.

The owner, Jamie, set up for our Art in the Garden Party and she gifted me a stunning, yellow bouquet for the shop!

Support the strong women in your life! I want to connect with other business owners and I am glad to know we have so many women-owned businesses in downtown Westfield. This bouquet is for my amazing mom!

I was priveledged to see my old friends yesterday! Brent and I were lucky to have a great ceramics teacher who allowed us to throw big and thrive. I gave him 4 pounds and he took off centering. Cellular memory will come back to those who loved throwing on the wheel. If you haven't thrown since highschool, maybe 20 years-30 years°°•○●☆it's like riding a bike. Going tall and big is tough but those who allow themselves to fail will learn and stretch the clay tall! What a great throwing session together.
