Today is International Ceramics Day. I am thankful for knowing about the "Mad Potter of Biloxi"~George Ohr.
His evolutionary ideas inspired me to let go of the perfection clay can bring but listen to where the clay wants to go. I was able to explore the clay side wall and enjoy the ripple, dance, fold, controlled collapse, wobble and twist. I have gained so much knowledge about physics and how clay moves because of this eccentric potter.
Remember when you were younger and it was clay day in school? How good did you feel moving through the expressive clay?
We have to adapt to where the clay wants to go as we learn. Exploring clay brings out creativity, allowing you to think outside the box. Happy Clay Day. NationalClayWeek
The so-called “Mad Potter of Biloxi” was a wildly innovative ceramist of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. But he didn’t earn due praise until the 1970s.
