Sorry that it's been a while since the last update, but I've been very busy processing a couple of collections that I bought recently. The star of this week's offerings is a nice US HB first printing of Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton. There are a few additions to the children's section, including some AA Milne Winnie the Pooh hardcovers, and a pretty hardcover copy of The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Graham with the classic illustrations by Ernest Shepard. It's been a busy couple of weeks, so I'm just getting around to posting an inventory update. I recently bought a small collection of railroad books, including the few pictured here plus a few more that I'm working on cataloging. A couple of local history titles, including Mount Airy and Buckeystown, as well as several titles about the Civil War in Maryland. We are Bayside Books of Maryland located in East Main Antiques & Fine Furnishings at 127 East Main St in Westminster, MD. We have put the SF/Fantasy paperbacks back out after pulling them to go to the Dealers Room at Balticon - roughly doubling the count of paperbacks that were out previously. Still working on getting the SF/Fantasy hardbacks out, but should have that done in the next week.

We are a small, general purpose used and rare book store. Specialties include military history and the US Civil War (with three shelves just on Gettysburg); the Old West; SF/fantasy/horror/mystery; Oriental Carpets and textiles; biography; arts and photography; leather and other fine bindings; vintage children's books; and more.

Same hours as East Main Antiques.

Just a short update today, as we are getting ready to sell books at the Balticon science fiction convention over Memorial Day weekend. I will be pulling our entire science fiction and fantasy section to go to the show, but will be back the following week. Fresh stock that went today includes two local board games each still in their original shrink-wrap: Chesapeakeology, and All About Baltimore. All About Baltimore was published in 1983 as a promotional piece to boost tourism in the city, and features local businesses as destinations in the game. It is a scarce game in any condition, and genuinely rare still in its original shrink-wrap.

I am cataloging books today, and came across this interesting Sherlock Holmes pastiche, that imagines an adventure in which Holmes meets Houdini. While checking the copyright page to determine the publication year and print status, I noticed that the text is set in Baskerville font! I love my job.

Lots of new inventory went out today at Bayside Books of Maryland located in East Main Antiques & Fine Furnishings at 127 East Main St in Westminster, MD. Lots of cool stuff from a great Civil War collection I recently purchased. The collection included titles related to Maryland in the Civil War and to Gettysburg, and some non-book items as well such as Civil War-themed decks of playing cards, dvds, and unopened jigsaw puzzles.

Great day at the Flowers and Jazz Festival in Westminster yesterday. Bayside Books of Maryland located in East Main Antiques & Fine Furnishings, representing on Main St! It was overcast and a little drizzly at first but not too bad, and it cleared up by lunch time. We had hundreds of people come through over the course of the festival, with a majority of them saying it was their first time in the store. I was a pleasure to meet you all, and we hope to see you all again!

Sorry I haven't posted any updates for the last few weeks. Malice Domestic was last weekend, and I was there along with the entire contents of my Mystery/Detective/True Crime/Occult sections. Malice is an annual mystery genre convention in Bethesda, and I was there selling books in the Dealers Room. Had a lot of fun and made some money, and I scored four boxes of excellent vintage paperbacks with lots of TV/movie tie-in stuff like Planet of the Apes (both TV and original movies), The Invaders, Blake's 7, Land of the Giants, Dark Crystal, X (movie tie-in to The Man with X Ray Eyes starring Ray Milland), Young Frankenstein, Battlestar Galactica, and much more. Check the photos below for more details. Also took the opportunity to rearrange the store some. The Mystery section has swapped places with the SF paperbacks, so now the SF paperbacks and hardbacks are all together instead of on opposite walls. I don't know if having the SF split like that bothered any of you, but it sure bothered me and I'm glad to have fixed it.
