Business owners can reap several benefits when they hire their own children to work as legitimate employees. Here are some of the tax advantages of hiring your children:

1. You can deduct the wages of the children from your business income as a business expense,

2. If your children are under the age of 18, you do not have to withhold or pay any Social Security or Medicare tax on their wages (subject to some exceptions),

3. Your children will pay tax on the salary you pay them only to the extent it exceeds the standard deduction for the year (currently $12,550 for single filers).

Golomb, Schwartz & Cove, PA wishes our community a happy and safe 4th of July. This year marks the 245th anniversary of American independence. Be sure to celebrate with one of these fun events in our local community:

1. Miami: 3pm - 7 pm, Free Independence Day Celebration at Jose Marti Park featuring live performing artists.

2. Doral: 9:20 pm, Fireworks display at Doral Glades Park.

3. Coral Springs: 5:00pm, Celebration at Mullins Park featuring a water splash zone, live music, food trucks, and more!

4. Ft. Lauderdale: 7:30 pm, The City of Fort Lauderdale hosts a schedule of beachside events including The Beach Boys and other performances followed by fireworks at 9 pm.

5. Weston: 10:30 am, Patriotic Parade at Weston Town Center.
