One year on the books! What a storied adventure it’s been. Volume upon volume of literary fun, community gathering, and conversation. Tomorrow we will have live music on the back porch at 4pm and stay open late to celebrate our first anniversary. Please drop in so we can say thanks for the support in our shop’s first chapter!

What an absolute pleasure to visit with Ben Aleshire yesterday at , see the space he’s created and view the amazing group photography show “Analog 4 Eva,” and… plan his letterpress workshop at Snowfort(!!!), which will be on Sunday, May 24! I included a couple images of broadsides that Ben has printed on our letterpress back when it was in Saranac Lake. As a group, we will make a poetry broadside and everyone will get one to take home!

Where did AI come from so suddenly?

Bruce Holsinger’s Culpability begins with a self-driving car accident, but it quickly opens into something larger: a literary family novel about privilege, guilt, technology, and the murky nature of responsibility these days.

What makes the novel especially compelling is that it refuses easy moral clarity. You root for the family even while wondering whether they are escaping consequences they should have to face.

TOMORROW!!!! On Thursday, April 30 at 6pm, four awesome writers will be here to read their poems and stories. Sixteen years ago, we met when Adam traveled from Baltimore to Atlanta to read at Amy’s reading series in Atlanta, and together or individually, we’ve hosted readings in at least 10 different cities. There’s just a certain vitality to hearing really good writing read aloud, perhaps discovering a voice that’s new to you, and being fully immersed in a creative milieu. We are so excited to bring this kind of energy to our adopted hometown of Westport, and we hope you will come tomorrow to experience the magic yourself.

So, what is a reading? It’s distinct from a book release or author signing, though the buying and signing of books will also occur! A “reading” is generally a gathering at which two or more people read their original writing, whether it’s published or not. This Thursday, a mix of four wonderful regional and local authors will share poems and stories. After they read, we welcome you to stay for the “afterglow”—meet the writers, ask questions, and...buy their books!
