💊 MEDICATION MYTH MONDAY 💊

MYTH:
“Generic medications aren’t as good as brand-name medications.”

FACT:
FDA-approved generic medications must meet the same standards for quality, strength, purity, and stability as their brand-name counterparts. They also contain the same active ingredient and are required to work the same way in the body.

Generic medications may look different in color, shape, size, or packaging because their inactive ingredients can differ but that doesn’t mean they are lower quality.

💰 And there’s a bonus: Generics often cost less, which can make treatment more affordable.

Have questions about a generic substitution or why your medication looks different this month? Ask your pharmacist before making any changes.

💚 Different name. Same active ingredient. Same FDA standards.

💊MEDICATION MYTH MONDAY 💊

MYTH:
“If someone has the same symptoms as me, it’s okay to share my prescription medication.”

FACT:
Prescription medications should never be shared. Even when two people have similar symptoms, they may have completely different conditions or need different medications, doses, or treatment.

A medication prescribed specifically for you could be unsafe for someone else because of their:

* Other medications
* Allergies
* Medical conditions
* Age or weight
* Possible drug interactions

⚠️ Sharing certain prescription medications can also be illegal.

💡 Same symptoms don’t always mean the same treatment. Encourage friends and family members to talk with their healthcare provider or pharmacist instead of using someone else’s prescription.

Your prescription is prescribed for YOU. 💜

💊 MEDICATION MYTH MONDAY 💊

MYTH:
“If it’s sold over the counter, it’s completely safe.”

FACT:
Over-the-counter (OTC) medications can be safe and effective when used as directed, but they can still cause side effects, interact with prescription medications, or be unsafe for some people.

⚠️ Be especially careful when:

* Taking more than one cold, flu, allergy, or pain medication. Some contain the same active ingredients.
* Combining OTC products with prescription medications or supplements.
* You have certain medical conditions or take multiple medications.
* Giving medication to children…always follow age and dosing instructions carefully.

💡 Always read the Drug Facts label, follow the recommended dose, and when you’re unsure, ask your pharmacist.

Just because you don’t need a prescription doesn’t mean you don’t need to use it carefully. 💜

💊 MEDICATION MYTH MONDAY 💊

MYTH:
“If I’m feeling better, I can stop taking my medication.”

FACT:
Feeling better doesn’t always mean it’s time to stop your medication. Some medications need to be taken for the full prescribed duration, while others may need to be gradually reduced rather than stopped suddenly.

⚠️ Stopping certain medications abruptly can cause side effects or allow your condition to worsen.

Before changing the dose, skipping doses, or stopping a prescription, talk with your pharmacist or healthcare provider first.

Your medication plan was prescribed for a reason. Make sure you know when and how it should be stopped. 💜

💊 Pharmacy FAQ Friday

Q: What should I do if I miss a dose of my medication?

A: It depends on the medication! Some medications can be taken when you remember, while others may need to be skipped if it’s almost time for your next dose.

One important rule: Don’t automatically double your next dose unless your healthcare provider or pharmacist has specifically instructed you to do so.

If you’re unsure, check the instructions that came with your prescription or give your pharmacist a call. They can help you determine the safest next step for your specific medication.

💚 Questions about your medications? We’re here to help.

☀️ Medication Safety Tip from Wetumpka Pharmacy 💊

Alabama heat can do more than make your car uncomfortable it can also damage your medications.

🚗 Never leave your medications in a hot car. Temperatures inside a parked vehicle can quickly exceed 120°F, which may reduce the effectiveness of many prescription and over-the-counter medications.

Here are a few simple ways to keep your medications safe:
✅ Store medications in a cool, dry place at home.
✅ Take medications with you when you leave your vehicle.
✅ Keep medications in their original labeled containers.
✅ Check storage instructions. Some medications require refrigeration.
✅ If you’re unsure whether heat may have affected your medication, talk with your pharmacist before taking it.

Your medications work best when they’re stored properly. A few simple precautions can help protect your health all summer long.
