Tom van Steenbergen reacts to his 4th place finish at Rampage 2024: Share your thoughts in the comments

I stomped the run of my life yesterday… I’m in absolute disbelief that this was seen as a 4th place run by the judges. I’ve never been vocal about my feelings in such a subjective sport, but I need to get this out. From what I understand after watching the live feed, it seems I should have focused more on tricking the smaller jumps in my line. But to me, that’s not what Rampage is about. Ask anyone about the margin of error on a frontflip drop… I’m the only one who can now tell you the margin of error is 0% on a 60ft frontflip drop, with life-altering consequences.

I should be celebrating the biggest accomplishment of my career with my loved ones, but instead, I’m f*cking heartbroken because of the score I got.

Regardless of what the judges thought, I overcame so much throughout this journey. I’m incredibly proud of what my team and I accomplished. We did EXACTLY what we set out to do. There are no highs without the lows, and I know my best is yet to come… So much love to everyone who reached out. Some things are just too un relatable to judge I guess

Brendog’s Response to Rampage 2024:

“What an experience that was this year at Red Bull Rampage 2024. We didn’t leave anything on the table but came away with the worst result we have ever had at this insane MTB event. I think we got the wrong idea and misunderstood what Rampage is all about. We thought it was a progressive big mountain biking event, but I think we got that very wrong. It seems to have turned into more of a slope-style event. We worked so hard on this line for the last two weeks. The boys haven’t stopped, literally bloody sweat and tears put on to it. I managed to ride every feature without crashing and in the final managed to put it all together in one final run. Unfortunate that it wasn’t noticed by the judges. Home safe now and trying to take it all in. - Brendan Fairclough
