Hunters paid for a study saying state game agencies need more diversity, specifically including nonbinary employees and people with non hunting beliefs about hunting and wildlife. Michael Manfredo from Colorado State University argued that agencies have too many traditionalists, meaning people who are m supportive of hunting and using wildlife, and not enough “mutualists,” who are generally against hunting and lethal wildlife management.

This is Pittman-Robertson money being used by universities and national wildlife groups to fundamentally reshape who works inside America’s game agencies. Instead of focusing on competence, wildlife knowledge and hiring the best person for the job, they are pushing identity politics and trying to bring more people with less traditional, less hunting-friendly beliefs into the very agencies that regulate hunters. Then they study how to “overcome resistance” from the existing employees who disagree. Hunters are literally helping fund an effort to change the culture and leadership of the agencies that hold enormous power over us.

Grant amount: $142,974
Federal award number: F22AP00748
Funding source: U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Multistate Conservation Grant Program.
