There’s a little science behind every tan. ☀️🧬🤎
Your skin’s colour comes partly from melanin, a pigment made by cells called melanocytes. UV exposure can affect both the melanin already present and the production of new pigment. 🔬
☀️ UVA can darken existing melanin, creating a more immediate colour change.
🧬 UVB helps trigger new melanin production, which develops more gradually. That’s why your colour can continue changing after exposure ends.
🛏️ Indoor tanning equipment uses these same types of UV, but the intensity and balance vary. Ten minutes in one bed doesn’t necessarily equal ten minutes in another, or outdoors.
👤 Your natural pigmentation and how your skin responds to UV matter, too. Someone else’s session time isn’t a guide for your skin.
⏳ Colour takes time to develop. Don’t use a lack of immediate colour as a reason to extend your exposure. Burning isn’t a step toward a better tan.
