NEW NEW ARRIVALS BOX- Jazz CD’s

You’ll find these right next to the Classical CD’s new arrival box as they both came from the same well cared for and curated collection. Most are NM/NM and are reissues of classic small group sessions, often recorded by Rudy Van Gelder between 1955 and 1965 for Blue Note. It was a magical time for jazz as swing, bop, cool and the mods were all getting tangled up and producing an era of great performances and music! You can pay $400 for a dogged LP of one of these sessions or buy 80 or so CD’s. Pretty easy choice if you like to spend your spare time listening instead of hunting. There’s Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Coleman Hawkins and a host of other brilliant musicians backing them up in this box. (There’s also plenty of other jazz CD’s in a storage case at the back of The Record Room that often get overlooked. We’re located inside Hewitts Antiques at 228 N Market in downtown Wichita.

NEW ARRIVALS- Compact Disc Odds and Ends

You’ll find these titles in CD New Arrivals boxes here at The Record Room and we’ve added a bit of everything from rock classics to bootlegs. Some are pretty rare, some are pretty common and all are in fine shape. We don’t limit ourselves to just rock so you’ll find jazz, blues, soul, folk classical, world and other under represented musical genres in CD as well as cassette, 8-track and vinyl LP, 45 and 78 formats. If you’re interested in expanding your musical horizons, The Record Room is a good place to start! We’re located at 228 N Market inside Hewitts Antiques in downtown Wichita.

NEW ARRIVALS- Classical CD’s Like New! $3.00-$5.00

Folks that regularly listen to classical music usually aren’t eating pizza and doing tequila shots while handling it so it’s not unusual to find the media in pristine condition. Such is the case with this new lot we brought in. They came from a huge, well curated and cared for collection that we’re just now getting into. Most are club issues and we’re glad we didn’t have this guy’s monthly CD bill from 1985 to 1995! Yikes! Most are priced at $3 with a few at $5 (due to their low issuance or market desirability.) See these as well as hundreds of other CD’s from all genres at The Record Room, located inside Hewitts Antiques at 228 N Market in downtown Wichita.

NEW ARRIVALS- Vintage Bluegrass/Folk LP’s

Hey! Winfield is coming up and this year we’re getting ahead of the festival by adding a variety of vintage Bluegrass LP’s to wet your whistle. (Last year we were late.)You’ll find the titles pictured, as well as more from this genre in the New Arrivals boxes, both full priced and $5.00. A few of these still have the “Ernest Tubb Record Shop” sticker on the cover. (That adds a nice touch.) Bluegrass never dies…it just finds a new host as each generation adds their special flair. ALBUM-O-THE-DAY: Stringbean And His Banjo- A Salute To Uncle Dave Macon “The Dixie Dewdrop” (1963)

In our tireless effort here at The Record Room to find you Stringbean records, we were able to procure this classic Starday release. It’s in fine shape and sports its original shrink wrap. For you Stringbean newbies, the “Bean” was an Opry entertainer who wore an oversized shirt and attached specially made pants to it that hit him about mid thigh making him look extremely tall. Folks LOVED it! He was also a darn good banjo player, playing with Bill Monroe in the early 1940’s (as not just any schmuck made the cut in Bill’s bands.) On this LP he pays tribute to Uncle Dave Macon, a vaudeville performer who pretty much founded Nashville’s country music scene on his open back Gibson banjo and Appalachian Mountain roots music. He joined the Opry’s radio show in 1926 and stayed on as it entered the television era. String is backed up on this LP by bass, guitar and dobro as the group polishes off 14 of Uncle Dave’s greatest hits. This copy is a 1976 Gusto reissue of the 1963 original but HEY Stringbean records are hard to find!

NEW ARRIVAL- Realistic minimus 5 Bookshelf Speakers $32.50

Alongside Realistic’s very popular Metal-cased micro speakers they dubbed “Minimus 7’s, they also released the Minimus 5’s, which were packaged in air-sealed wood veneer cases and quite a bit bigger at 12 1/4” high. The 5’s featured a bigger 6 1/2” woofer and the same tweeter as the 7’s. Reviews have indicated the 5’s sounded “warmer” and had better bass than the punchier 7’s (which were pretty amazing sounding for the 1970’s given their tiny size.) The 5’s are a little better looking as well and should dress up any bookshelf you chose to deploy them on. The 5’s are rated at 15-25 watts maximum so careful cranking the power to them. They’re best suited for smaller places and casual listening. They can be hooked up via RCA plug or bare wire connections (see pic) giving you something to run an old 70’s shelf unit through. NEW ARRIVALS- Classics on Cassette!

We just restocked our factory audio cassettes with some popular titles from Led Zeppelin, Molly Hatchet, Dylan, The Byrds and more. Most of this lot are around 3 bucks unless they book significantly higher. Such is the case with Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Street Survivor with the flame cover AND a it’s the rare Jamaican Record Specialist Ltd. edition. It’s $25.00. NEW ARRIVALS- Classics on 8-Track

We know we’ve got some 8-track fans here at The Record Room because they keep selling. This new lot features classic works from the likes of The Beatles, The Kinks, The Byrds, The Grateful Dead and more. They have not been play tested but all have been checked for firmly attached, intact pads (although we would recommend new pads and splices for any 50 year old cartridge as the foam padding and adhesives can deteriorate with age.) 8 tracks rival cassettes and vinyl for pure, warm analog sound with the exception of that occasional “ker-plunk” when the program changes! (But many consider that part of their charm.) As with any form of vintage media, they’ll sound as good as the equipment they are played on. They have a devoted collector following (with a classic muscle car collector kicker to boot!)

NEW ARRIVAL 1950’s Biomorphic End Table $125

Here’s a dandy little kidney-shaped end table complete with wrought iron hair pin legs! It’s probably from the 1950’s although biomorphic furniture was around in the Art Nouveau period in the 1920’s. However the Linoleum used to cover the tops of this piece wasn’t! We’ll call it “Late Biomorphic” which sounds fancier anyway. It is well built, sturdy but we’re pretty sure this was a mass market piece. The Linoleum on bottom shelf has some checking and the brass finials covering the posts are a bit pitted but it still shows nicely. This piece would look good with one of those giant 1950’s ashtrays on it and that would cover the checking as well as holding your car keys, hair scrunchies, posty note pad and reading glasses. (Worked when I was a kid!) Pretty darn groovy though as is. See this and other mid century oddities at The Record Room, located inside Hewitts Antiques at 228 N Market in downtown Wichita!
