For those I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting, my name is Jess Hancock, and I’m the owner of The Wichita Gun Club. As we’ve grown, we’ve welcomed plenty of new faces and followers, so I wanted to introduce myself and share a little about the person and family behind the shop.
I spent 30 years serving with the Wichita Police Department and founded The Wichita Gun Club in 2012. Today, we’re in our third location, and it’s been incredible watching this business grow through the relationships we’ve built along the way.
I figured one way to introduce myself was to show off my personal “BBQ gun”—a beautiful NIGHTHAWK CUSTOM FI****MS Bob Marvel in 9mm. If you look closely at the rear of the slide, just next to the hammer, you’ll see The Wichita Gun Club’s logo custom engraved by Nighthawk. That personal touch makes an already special pistol mean even more to me. Nighthawk’s craftsmanship and attention to detail are something I’ve always admired. Their motto, “One Gun. One Gunsmith.” says a lot about the pride they put into their work.
The leather holster and matching magazine carrier were made by the incredibly talented Matt Hunn of Hunn Leather Products in Augusta. The tooling, detail, and craftsmanship speak for themselves, and I couldn’t imagine a better pairing for this pistol. It’s a pleasure to show off the work of someone so talented right here in our area.
But the second photo shows what I’m proudest of: my family.
My wife, Christy, and I have been married for 32 years. She’s my backbone, my biggest supporter, and a huge part of helping me run the gun store. We have four amazing kids, and watching them build their own lives and families has been one of our greatest joys. One is married with a little boy who is now a year old, and another is expecting our second grandchild. Of all the hats I wear, being Grandpa is probably my favorite.
The gun store isn’t the only business our family is involved in. I also own and operate Prairie Stone Lending and Flint Hills Distributing, our worm distribution business. Between those businesses and our growing family, there’s always something keeping us busy!
To everyone who has ever purchased a gun, walked through our doors, recommended us to a friend, or supported us in any way: thank you. Your support has helped me provide for my family and grow this shop from its beginnings in 2012 to where we are today.
Christy and I are grateful to Wichita and the community that has stood behind us. Whether you’ve been with us since our first location or you’re just getting to know us, we appreciate you being part of The Wichita Gun Club. I look forward to hopefully catching some of you in the shop and shaking your hand.
