Due to technical difficulties our Pool Tip Tuesday never went through yesterday, but no worries, like before we will just do the infamous... Pool... Tip... Day?

During the entirety of this week we are unfortunately looking at chances of rain and during such times it's hard to think about the pool. We agree with this sentiment because there is no reason to adjust the chemistry when the water is being diluted constantly.

Our recommendation would be to just ensure you are still filtering the water and providing chlorine to the pool. Once the rain subsides, get the water level back to normal levels and come in for a water test so we can see what the rain did to the chemistry.

It's that time of the week 😎 Pool Tip Tuesday 🌊

Piggybacking off of last week with phosphates, we are going to talk about something that they can cause and is another leading problem we see with pools all year long, especially in the early and mid season; that being combined chlorine.

It is not widely known that we test for two chlorine values when we test water, as most common testing methods such as test strips or the two way test kits only test for "Free Chlorine." The other value is something called "Total Chlorine,"

Free Chlorine is the amount of "active" chlorine in your pool, i.e. what is actually working in the pool/spa to break down/kill bacteria and algae; while Total Chlorine is the amount of chlorine you have in your water in total, period. So when they are not equal, like your total chlorine being 3 but your free chlorine is 2 that means you have a "combined chlorine" issue.

What this means is that the active chlorine (free) is being bound in someway, most of the time by organic compounds such as phosphates, pollen, and algae. It is important to keep your chlorine levels even, because if your free chlorine is bound, it doesn't matter how much total chlorine you have, none of it is actually working to break down debris.

The methods for treating combined chlorine can vary depending on the cause. If you're having trouble maintaining chlorine in your pool, stop by for a free water test. We'll identify what's causing the issue and help ensure your chlorine stays active, keeping your pool clean, clear, and properly sanitized.

As always let us know if you knew this, if it was helpful, or if you have further questions!

Yesterday was supposed to be Pool Tip Tuesday, but we couldn't pass up the opportunity to showcase the great work our service crew has been doing. No worries, we are still here to provide "Pool Tip.... day?"

Today we are going to be talking about something more niche but still very prevalent to keeping a happy and healthy pool; that being phosphates.

Phosphates are compounds that get into virtually every pool from a variety of different sources. Dirt, leaves, grass, rainwater, pollen, decaying organic debris, and even we ourselves bring phosphates into the water from the products we use like sunscreen and lotion.

These compounds are not dangerous by any means but they act like food for algae so if your chlorine drops in the slightest you can get instant algae blooms. Pool owners with high phosphates often complain about consistent algae problems, if not that it would be constantly cloudy water.

In order to manage your phosphates, we recommend keeping your chlorine levels constantly in the range of 2-5 ppm, ensure you are regularly taking physical debris such as leaves and dirt out of the pool by skimming, brushing, and vacuuming the pool, and lastly cleaning your filter as needed when the pressure increases beyond normal standards.

Above all else if you are battling constant algae problems or cloudy water we are always here and more than willing to help you get your water balanced and clear again. As always let us know if you knew this, if it was helpful, or if you have any questions!
