This may not look like much to some, but for me this is the culmination of dreams and hopes revealing themselves in physical form. As I was starting to unpack my herbs and decor to set up my room for herbal consultations at I
I had a wave of feelings wash over me. Amazement was the first. Just 10 years ago I was battling digestive issues and learning about herbs and holistic wellness through books. I would Google “herb schools” and The California School of Herbal Studies kept calling me. At the time I lived in Southern California and CSHS was in Northern California. I would dream about studying herbs among the redwoods. I would look for herbalists that were local to see if I could study with them- which at the time were none locally where I lived. Now here I am, post-CSHS, and other herbal programs, to share herbalism in the same community where I was 10 years ago.
The second emotion was gratitude. There are so many people in my life that have been supportive in so many ways. Angie, owner of The Mindful Lotus, has given me amazing opportunities to grow my practice and business- I honestly wouldn’t have gotten to this point without her! 💜 Of course family and friends who have been supportive and baby-sitters(it does take a village!). Also to those who bought my herbal products, I am grateful for your business and support.
Third was uncertainty. Do people want to see an herbalist? Will I be able to help the people who see me? What if me and my business are “not good enough”? I do know this: everything is a learning experience and even though I have hundreds of hours under my belt, I will be still be learning everyday. If I can positively impact just one person’s life, it will be worth it. At the end of the day, this is what I love and if I can connect with people and connect people with plants, my heart will be full. So as I continue to stock my shelves with dried herbs, tinctures and flower essences, I continue to reflect and hope on all of the good things to come.
