Lower Township is where Cape May County began. From the arrival of the first European settler here in the late 1600s to today, it is blessed with a rich heritage and a great variety of historic sites. Indeed, Native Americans lived here centuries before Europeans arrived. Its location at the opening to the Delaware Bay and river has accounted for much of this heritage and is a vital part of its lifestyle and culture. We will be walking you through 27 sites that are designed as a sampler of that rich and varied heritage. Many are located on our main, and thus most heavily trafficked, roads. Please be cautious when stopping to view or visit them. Please note that many are private homes so do not trespass without permission.
