Dit Le Cure-dent, Chapelier

Dit Le Cure-dent, Chapelier I make custom historical hats using period correct methods and materials. So Beaver, Beaver Blend (half- beaver & half rabbit), and wool. "Chapelier" is hatter.

For those of you wondering where the name Dit Le Cure-Dent came from , I received it as a nickname doing French & Indian War reenacting. "Dit" is the French term for "say" but is also understood as "called", it is an nickname, often a description of the person. Le Cure-Dent translates as "The Pick Tooth". So in the end I am "The hatter, known as The Toothpick". For those who know me would agree that this is a very accurate description.

Wow! Look at the clear line the cord left from the blocking. You can even see the twist of the cord.

A 600-year-old medieval hat from Lappvattnet. The hat, which is made of felted sheep’s wool, was preserved in a bog. Now housed at the Västerbottens Museum in Sweden.

We have big news! Bacon's Castle is a recipient of a $400,000 Save America's Treasures grant! Administered by the National Park Service, this grant will help us repair brick in the 1665 section of the house, underpin the iconic chimney stacks, restore windows, address moisture issues in the cellar and much more over the next three years.
We're thrilled to receive the grant, but the work isn't done. This program requires a 1:1 match, so we need support from our community to unlock the $400,000 from the National Park Service. If you're interested in supporting the effort, you can make a gift online at www.preservationvirginia.org or contact [email protected].
Thanks for partnering with us on these huge preservation projects!

Several months ago my Jiffy steamer died and I bought a cheap replacement that did a mediocre job. Today I got a used Jiffy in amazing condition at the Habitat ReStore. Now hopefully I can block hats with a lot less frustration.

Back to work with the new steamer.
