Take a peaceful walk through north-central Pennsylvania without ever leaving the bookstore. Our August Artist of the Month, Patty Bailey, transforms local forests, waterfalls, wildlife, and rural landscapes into detailed acrylic paintings. Many of her pieces begin during her hikes, when she photographs the quiet places and natural views that capture her attention. Patty creates each painting with the hope that viewers will feel invited into the scene and take a moment to appreciate the beauty found close to home.

Her artwork will be displayed at the Otto Bookstore throughout August. Stop in and take a closer look!

Parade time is coming. The road is shut down for the Little League World Series Grand Slam Parade. The chairs have been in place for at least 24 hours. Yes, we live in a community where people can leave chairs in their saved place for up to 3 days without worry. The first picture is from the Little League Parade in 1951. And yes, there is the Otto Bookstore in one of our previous locations. The Capitol Theater(now CAC) is next door and then the Genetti Hotel Tower is just beyond. At some point the powers that be realized the parades should run from West to East. Otherwise, everyone marching the route walked right into blinding sunlight as they reached this point: the intersection of West 4th Street and Hepburn. Look closely at all the guys in the photo, they are NOT happy with the wonderful sunshine. lol. Thank you Mike Roan for the 1951 photo
