What a crazy start to the day!
We happened to have a rep at the store meeting with some feed customers when the quake hit. Inside, I was walking between the store and warehouse while Danielle was prepping in our sweet shop.
When the shaking finally finished, Danielle and I quickly ran outside to check on our customers and then began assessing the damage. With broken glass, merchandise tossed everywhere, and no power, we decided the safest option was to keep the doors closed.
Jake and the crew worked hard to get the store back together throughout the day, and eventually the, power was restored around 7pm. We were able to run the generator and salvage some of our ice cream and frozen dog foods. Meanwhile, we lost nearly all of our perishable sweet shop ingredients, and because of this, the store will be open at 9am tomorrow, but our food service will not resume until Friday. We will continue serving ice cream, coffee, and candy.
We thank everyone who reached out, and we hope all of you are okay and got through it with little to no damage.
Today was a weird one, but we made it!. We look forward to seeing you when we reopen tomorrow.

Our business is currently undergoing a major change as we convert the point-of-sale system we've operated our store with for more than 19 years. While still handling all the responsibilities that come with owning a retail business and keeping our shelves stocked with the best pet products, clothing, and gifts, Jake has completely taken the lead on this point-of-sale conversion Honestly, this process has been a nightmare, especially during our peak season. Long hours are an understatement!!
All that to say, he always shows up for the kids, takes care of farm chores, and somehow still finds time to clean up the storefront in preparation for the upcoming festivities!
And, speaking of festivities- he is my right hand man for everything Hometown Celebration!
Sometimes Jake slips into the background of what you see at JDR, but he is truly the backbone of our family business, and I think he deserves a shout-out.
I love you, and this ridiculously, overwhelmingly busy life we're building. 💜
