September can be an excellent planting window for many trees, shrubs and perennials. Cooler air reduces stress on the top of the plant while warm soil can still support root growth. Plant at the proper depth, keep a tree's trunk flare visible and continue watering through dry fall weather. A strong start this season supports a healthier landscape next year.
