including a $10 Bank of Washington note featuring George Washington, a beautifully engraved $3 Wilmington note dated January 1861, and additional historic currency with striking designs and detailed engraving.

Prior to 1933 the United States Treasury printed banknotes backed by the gold standard. These Gold Certificates offered a more convenent way to pay in gold. When the gold standard was was ended in 1933 possession of these gold certificates by private individuals was deemed illegal. That law was receded in 1964. Today these special notes live on in collections and highlight a unique time in our nation's monetary past.
