Apparently saying, “I’ll just make one more,” does not magically make more fabric appear.

I bought that Halloween fabric 3 years ago.

Folded. Beautiful. Untouched.

Waiting for the “right” project.

This week, I finally cut into it.

3 years in a drawer.
4 hours on my cutting table.

And suddenly, it was becoming a quilt. ❤️

The fabric was never the problem.

The deciding was.

So go find the fabric you’ve been saving for someday.

Pull it out.

Put it on the table.

You don’t even have to cut it yet.

Just ask yourself:

What am I actually saving this for?

Now tell me… what’s sitting on your shelf right now? 👇

I cut my half square triangles a FULL inch bigger. 😂

If I need an 8½” HST, I start with 9½” squares.

Why?

Because fabric shifts. Bias stretches. Seams aren’t always perfect. And I’d rather give myself a little extra room and trim every HST to the exact size I need.

Does it use a little more fabric?

Yep.

Does it save me from ripping apart a star block because my points disappeared?

Also yep. 😂

Oversize it. Sew it. Press it. Trim it.

I’m working on the Allspice star block next in those black, grey and Halloween fabrics, and I’ll walk you through the whole thing. 👻⭐

It’s the ghosts. 👻

This is the fabric that started the whole quilt.

Ghosts. Pumpkins. Moons. A little spooky, but still pretty enough that I want it on my couch all October. 😂

Instead of cutting my favorite print into tiny pieces, I let it be the star and built everything else around it.

Black. Grey. Spiderwebs. A little sparkle. And a light background to give all those dark fabrics somewhere to breathe.

That’s one of my favorite ways to start a fabric pull:

Pick the fabric you love most first.

Then let it be in charge.

You don’t have to choose the whole quilt at once. ❤️

Different mountain. Same incredible day. ❤️

I told everyone in my Sunday morning email that the boys, Erik, and I were heading up Mount Monadnock.

Apparently everyone else had the same idea. 😂

It was completely packed, so we made a quick change of plans and headed to Miller State Park to climb Pack Monadnock instead.

And maybe that made it an even better memory.

Still moving upward, side by side. ❤️

The views were incredible, including Mount Monadnock off in the distance.

Apparently on a clear day you can see all the way to Boston. It was a little too cloudy and rainy for that today, but I don’t think any of us cared.

Sometimes the day doesn’t go the way you pictured it.

You change the plan and keep going.

And sometimes Plan B turns out pretty dang good. ❤️

37 orange bricks. 2 green ones for the stem.

No triangles. No points to match.

And one brick right in the middle that gets somebody’s name on it. ❤️

That’s the whole quilt.
