A curated collection of specimens from the dawn of life, to one of Earth's greatest extinction events!
Starting with the 0.852 g specimen of the famed carbonaceous chondrite Aguas Zarcas, a representative of the cosmic soup in which the fundamental building blocks for life are found, the story in this collection begins! From a cloud of dust and gas, this planetary system we call home formed. Upon this little rock we call Earth, bombardment occurred, bringing the necessary material for what would become a thriving planet. Billions of years later, the life that came to grow and thrive would be subjected to a massive impact and extinction event, represented here by the K-Pg Boundary Microtektites taken from the Hell Creek Formation in Montana. These tiny spherules of solidified evidence are the lasting testament to that day and the destruction that it brought, raining down over the Earth. As the dinosaurs and plant life died, they became fossils and coal, represented here with a sample of Lignite taken from above that event boundary, and a polished piece of dinosaur bone.
From formation to destruction, some of the most profound events are preserved here for you to view and ponder.
