**Are they really different species?**

If you've been keeping South American cichlids for a while, you've probably heard hobbyists refer to **Gold Saum** and **White Saum** Green Terrors as if they were completely different fish.

But what does ichthyology tell us?

🔬 **The answer is... not necessarily.**

The beautiful **Green Terror (*Andinoacara rivulatus*)** naturally exhibits variation in the color of the edging along its scales and fins—known in the hobby as the **"Saum."**

✨ **Gold Saum** fish display brilliant golden or orange edging.

✨ **White Saum** fish exhibit striking white or bluish-white margins.

These differences are generally linked to geographic populations and natural variation rather than being separate species.

🌿 **Here's where it gets interesting...**
