Like many great companies BlacJac Longboards started as a hobby in the family garage with limited funds and endless enthusiasm. Bob, the founder and owner of BlacJac is a Mechanical Engineer who has spent the last 18 years in new product development for a national manufacturer of wood products. He is endlessly innovative and has a true passion for product design and testing. It was 2009 and the lo
ngboard scene was just starting to heat up in the rural town of Wi******er, Virginia. About that time Chris, the oldest of Bob and Laura's five children came home with his first longboard. It was a cruiser purchased from a local sports shop. The topography in Wi******er is ideal for longboarding; the town lies in the valley between the Allegheny and Blue Ridge mountain ranges and it's common for the elevation change within a neighborhood to be 100 feet or more. Chris was soon hooked and two of his brothers, Adam and Aaron were sucked in as well. The youngest members of the family, Jonah and Catherine were busy playing in the sandbox while all of this excitement was happening in the street in front of the house. In 2010, just for the fun of it Bob and his kids decided to try making a few longboards using a simple dual-piston electric vacuum press. It worked out so well that they made other boards using original designs and configurations. The kids and their friends had a great time testing the different designs. This became the informal "test department". Eventually they began receiving feedback on the performance of the various designs and it wasn't long before the overwhelming favorites emerged. In late 2011 they decided to share their favorite designs with longboarders everywhere. Molds were fabricated as was a custom 50 ton hydraulic board press and BlacJac Longboards was born. Family commitment is very important to Bob and Laura and the name BlacJac reflects that commitment. BlacJac is an acronym for each member of the family: Bob, Laura, Adam, Chris, Jonah, Aaron and Catherine. We invite you to try a board and join the BlacJac family.
