Things have been slow in the pottery world for the past week. Truthfully, it’s been a busy week with the kids going back to school, and I’m just too exhausted to do pottery after a workday.

It’s also been way too hot to fire my kiln, and this heat doesn’t seem to be leaving anytime soon. 🥵

Starting next week, I’ll have one day a week dedicated to orders while my kids are in school, so I’m hoping that will help me get back into a good pottery routine!

I think I’m officially obsessed…

It was so hard to stop working on this fairy house mug today. All I wanted to do was keep adding tiny little details. I already know this won’t be the last one—I have so many whimsical ideas I want to bring to life.

If you could drink coffee from any fantasy-themed mug, what would you choose? 🍄

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I love making cutesy sculptures. I’ll probably never be the “functional pottery” kind of girl. Mugs are honestly the only functional pieces I’ve ever really wanted to make.

But I don’t want to make plain mugs.

I want loud chaotic mugs , mugs kids gets excited to drink hot chocolate out of on Christmas Eve. Mugs that makes a mom feel like a carefree little kid again while she’s sipping her coffee before the house wakes up.

So today I decided there’s absolutely nothing wrong with making a wonky little pinch pot mug if it makes me happy.

So… that’s exactly what I did. ❤️

“What is that?!”

That was my dad’s response when I carried this piece into his garage.

My aunt’s response? “So you took a big lump of clay and turned it into…that?”

When I was 18, I tried to make a realistic clay bust. It was a disaster. The proportions were all wrong, it weighed close to 50 pounds, and I was convinced it had no business surviving the kiln.

But my instructor gave me an A.

Not because it looked realistic—but because she was amazed it didn’t explode in the kiln. She told me I had taken a disaster and turned it into something uniquely my own.

That stuck with me.

I decided then that I wasn’t going to spend my life trying to fit into someone else’s definition of what an artist or potter should be.

My art has always been about taking the chaos and making it into my own story.

I really need to make time to sit down and create some new fall-inspired pieces. 🍂 But for now, these are a few options!

A few years ago, when gnomes were trending, I made quite a few of them. I can also make pumpkins in any size, color, or shape you can imagine. 🎃
