🕊💔Roger McKenzie, the influential comic book writer best known for his groundbreaking work on Daredevil, has died.
McKenzie took over Daredevil in the late 1970s and helped push the series toward the darker, more mature tone that would become synonymous with the character. He also worked closely with Frank Miller during Miller’s early Daredevil run.
Beyond Daredevil, McKenzie wrote extensively for Marvel, including Captain America, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Marvel Fanfare and the original Death of Captain Marvel. His work with artist Don Perlin on Captain America also helped establish the idea of Steve Rogers running for president, which was later used in a celebrated storyline by Roger Stern and John Byrne.
McKenzie’s influence on Daredevil in particular cannot be overstated. His horror-inspired approach helped establish the darker direction that would soon be taken even further by Miller.
A major loss for the comics industry.
