Wright's Backyard Birding Center

Wright's Backyard Birding Center At Wright’s Birding Center we strive to give customers a quality product at an affordable price. The Wright's started Wright's Backyard Birding Center in 1983.

Our goal is to bring your backyard to life by offering the best products to attract birds and other backyard friends. It was located across the street for around 30 years. They moved across the street and about 3 years later, Nathan and Sarah Gatto bought Wright's Backyard Birding Center from the Wright's family. Sarah and Nathan met in high school (RJ Reynolds) They both went to Western Carolina

University where Nathan studied Biology with a concentration in Ornithology and Sarah was a Communications and Marketing major. In college Nathan and Sarah became avid birders and have travelled all around the United States and several other countries bird watching. They bought the store when Nathan was 24 years old and Sarah was 23 years old. They both wanted to do something that would allow them to enjoy birds, and help share their knowledge about birds with others! They knew it was a risk buying a business at a young age, but luckily the Wright's had a loyal customer base! Sarah and Nathan did bring some new things to the store. They wanted to expand past just backyard birding and started selling high-end optics for birders, and they also started leading monthly bird walks. They would like to continue to expand and get more people interested in birding. Sarah and Nathan are also very active Audubon Members, and are both on the Forsyth Audubon Board. Nathan is the current Vice President and Sarah is the Communications Chair.

Have you noticed your Cardinals looking a little awkward lately?

In late summer/early fall (after nesting season) Cardinals go through their yearly molt where they lose all of their head feathers! No worries, they are not sick and will get their beautiful crest back in just a couple of weeks!!

Have you noticed an increase in bird activity since the rain?! The drought really affected the birds during their nesting season, but now that we’ve had a little bit of wet weather our birds have been feeding non-stop!

We’ve also been seeing a lot more activity on our hummingbird feeder! When hummingbirds are nesting they are less active on flowers and feeders and are focusing mainly on insects, but now that they’re nesting season is starting to wrap up, you’ll see an increase in hummingbird activity! So make sure to keep your feeders full!!

Seems logical to me!

Expert birdwatchers have changes in their brain structure compared with novices, which probably help them better identify birds and may even protect against age-related cognitive decline
