❤️ RESCUE OR SHELTER? WE ARE BOTH — BUT IT’S TIME TO RECOGNIZE WHAT WE HAVE BECOME. ❤️

For 15 years, we have called ourselves a rescue.

We started with the simple goal of helping cats who had nowhere else to go. We took in abandoned, injured, sick, pregnant, feral, and unwanted cats and worked to give them a second chance.

But somewhere along the way, FCAT grew into something much bigger.

Today, we are caring for nearly 200 cats.

We don't simply rescue a cat and move on to the next one. We provide a safe place to live. We provide food, litter, vaccinations, medications, veterinary care, spay and neuter, rehabilitation, socialization, and love. Some cats stay with us for weeks. Some stay for months. Some may need us for the rest of their lives.

That is a shelter.

The difference between a traditional rescue and a shelter can sometimes be difficult to define. A rescue often operates through foster homes and takes in animals as space and resources allow. A shelter provides a physical place where animals can be housed and cared for until they are adopted, reunited with their families, transferred, or otherwise placed.

FCAT has become that physical place.

We have a cattery. We have medical and isolation areas. We have adoption spaces. We have cats of all ages and needs living here every single day.

And unlike a government-funded municipal shelter, we receive no government funding. We are a nonprofit organization supported by donations, adoptions, our thrift store, and the incredible people who believe these cats deserve a chance.

So going forward, you may hear us refer to ourselves as a shelter rather than simply a rescue.

Not because we have forgotten where we came from.

But because we want people to understand what FCAT has grown into — and what it takes to care for nearly 200 cats.

Every bowl of food.
Every bag of litter.
Every vaccination.
Every medication.
Every spay and neuter.
Every emergency vet visit.
Every kitten we fight to save.
Every frightened cat we teach to trust.
Every adoption.
Every cat who finally has a safe place to call home.

We are still rescuers at heart. ❤️

But today, we are also a shelter.

A shelter that cares deeply about the cats who come through our doors.

A shelter that believes every cat deserves compassion, medical care, safety, and a chance.

We are FCAT — a community cat shelter that cares. 🐾❤️

And we couldn't do this without our community standing beside us.

📢 NEW THRIFT STORE HOURS — STARTING AUGUST 15TH

We have some important changes coming to the FCAT Thrift Store.

Starting August 15th, our new hours will be:

🛍️ Monday–Friday: 11:30 AM–4:00 PM
🚫 Saturday & Sunday: CLOSED

I know changes like this can be an inconvenience, but I need to be honest about why we are making this change.

I need days off. I cannot continue working seven days a week. Running the rescue, caring for the cats, managing the thrift store, handling adoptions, cleaning, feeding, answering calls and messages, and dealing with everything that comes with rescue has taken a tremendous toll.

Taking Saturday and Sunday off from the thrift store will give me much-needed time to rest, catch up on things that have been neglected, and hopefully have a little time to take care of myself.

The rescue does not stop just because the thrift store is closed. The cats still need to be fed, cleaned, medicated, and cared for every single day.

🐾 WEEKEND DONATIONS:
On Saturdays and Sundays, we will NOT be accepting thrift store donations.

However, cattery donations will still be accepted on Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 AM–12:00 PM.

Please do not drop off thrift store donations outside of our hours. We simply do not have the staff or space available to process them when the shop is closed.

We appreciate everyone's understanding and continued support as we make this change. ❤️

This rescue means everything to me, but I have to find a way to make it sustainable. I cannot continue giving everything I have seven days a week.

Thank you to everyone who understands, supports us, and continues to stand beside FCAT and the community cats we care for. 🐾❤️

We are in need of 2 cleaners for Sundays who can commit to coming in at 9 to help with feeding, cleaning and medication of cats.

We've been getting a lot of emails asking what donations we need for our thrift shop, so here's a list of items that are always appreciated!

🛍️ Items that sell well in our shop:
• Gently used blankets
• Gently used sheets
• Towels
• Small lamps
• Bedside tables and small furniture
• Craft supplies (always a huge seller!)
• Puzzles and games
• Collector toys and Hot Wheels
• Gently used pet supplies and animal items
• Pet clothing
• Medium and small size clothing
• Gently worn men's jeans
• Gently worn shoes
• Unique, vintage, and interesting treasures

Every donation helps support the cats in our rescue. The money raised from our thrift shop goes directly toward food, litter, medical care, spay and neuter, emergency veterinary care, and all the daily necessities for the cats we care for.

A friendly reminder: Please bring donations inside during business hours and speak with one of our volunteers. Please do not leave donations outside. Items left outside are often damaged by the weather or taken before we ever get the chance to bring them in.
